TTC as haemophilia carrier

Hi everyone!

This is my first post so just dipping my toe in... :)

My husband and I are planning to try for a baby early next year. I'm a haemophilia carrier and I wondered if there were any others in the group who had the tests when pregnant to determine whether there were any conditions present? Interested to hear about your experiences and to understand better how it all works.

Thanks so much :)

Hi LeedsHare,

We can't offer any professional medical advice but we wanted to say hello, give this a bump for you and let you know some of our other users will be along soon to give you their advice and support.

Happy to answer questions about the tests although I dont have experience with haemophilia. I've had the Panorama tests for my 3rd and 4th babies. It is a straight forward blood test from the mother and they test for a variety of conditions. The harmony test covers fewer conditions, only 3 I believe. I attached a photo of the tests covered by panorama, although I'm not sure if haemophilia is included -you may need to speak to a specialist regarding those tests. I would start by speaking to your GP and possibly getting a referral to a geneticist for advice regarding TTC.
Not sure if that is any help to you! Good luck!

Hi there @calimommy, just wanted to say thank you! We’ve been waiting for our referral to come through from the hospital for a pre conception consultation with the gynaecologist but it’s taking a long while. I guess everything is slow at the minute due to COVID. Thank you for your help in the meantime. I haven’t heard of either of those tests, are they blood tests or internal?

Good luck and I hope you get to speak to a specialist soon. The tests I referred to are simple maternal blood tests which test for foetal DNA floating in the mother's blood stream. These are done once you are pregnant already. However the tests the geneticist might do would be a prenatal screen of you and your husband, to investigate possible scenarios, but again I'm not familiar with how it works. Good luck

Hi @LeedsHare. I am a carrier of moderate haemophilia A and have had two baby boys. The youngest is 9 weeks so I have been through the whole process with haematology and fetal medicine twice. Feel free to ask any specific questions here or PM Me.
