Sudden increase in calories = return in fertility while breastfeeding?

Has anyone heard of this theory before? I’m currently nursing a 13 month old and am keen to conceive again, but it’s proving hard to reduce the frequency of nursing.

I read this article and it seems reasonably convincing, but I’ve literally never come across the suggestion anywhere else.

www.thealphaparent.com/how-to-get-pregnant-whilst-breastfeeding/

I’m willing to try it if it might work, but not really keen to start gorging myself enough to spike my insulin levels for no reason. Tbh I already eat basically what I want without gaining any weight, I think because of the combo of nursing + walking a lot burns a lot of calories. I’d have to really go for it.

If anyone had any luck getting their fertility back using other techniques, I’d also love to hear about that!

No idea OP but following as I am in the same position!

@Bizawit I searched for some of the papers she referenced (annoying they aren’t just linked) and it does seem to be legitimate research. It mainly seems to be conducted on women in countries where undernourishment is the norm, though. I wonder if the same effect applies if you are already eating a sufficient number of calories to maintain weight.

Think I’m prepared to give it a go.

Hmmm yeh that is a good point- could be quite different if you are already getting plenty of nourishment..
If you are in good shape though and burning lots of calories, I don’t see the harm in giving it a bit of a go? Have your periods come back?

No they haven’t, how about yours?

Hi…Interested to know if this worked for you as I’m considering trying it 🤗

SparrowNest · 06/10/2021 11:37

Hey! It did, I ate really heavily and got my periods back about a month or so later while carrying on breastfeeding. I think I gained a few pounds though I can’t remember. We tried for a baby a few months after that and I got pregnant immediately. Now 7 months pregnant

That’s brilliant news!! Congratulations too!

I’m definitely going to give it a go, figure it’s the right time of year to comfort eat too

SparrowNest · 07/10/2021 08:47

Thank you! Good luck with it. Yeah, if you’re going to go for it you might as well do it in jumper season. That’s what I figured too

Hi, congratulations! That's great news! I also saw this article and want to try. I was just wondering how much you increased your calories by and what did you eat? I already have my period back but it's irregular and I haven't fallen pregnant yet so wondering if this will help us along. Thanks!

SparrowNest · 22/10/2021 10:51

Thanks!

I wasn’t very precise about it but I just stuffed myself to be honest. Second helpings of dinner, snacks when I felt like it. I tried not to go OTT on sugar (my weakness) but I think I did have pudding more often too.

I went back to eating more normally after a month or two, but still enough to make sure I wasn’t actually going to lose weight.

Thanks! I'll try just eating a bit more where I can

SparrowNest · 22/10/2021 11:00

Good luck :)

Evening all. My LO is 17 months, breastfeeding still and lot of feeding through the night. I have just read this article and I'm going to give this a go as I'm currently a little under my pre pregnancy weight. I've been off the mini pill 9 weeks and have EWCM but not looking like ovulation on OPKs and no period or positive HPT. Let's see if it works!

SparrowNest · 01/11/2021 20:17

@S155 good luck!
