Positive ovulation + positive pregnancy test 10 days post ERPC for miscarriage

Hi All,
10 days ago I had an ERPC procedure for a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks.
I decided to start tracking my cycle to get a sense of what is happening with my body and did an ovulation test this morning that came back as ‘peak’. I also did a pregnancy test to check on that and it came back positive which I assume is residual HCG hormone. My question is whether the ovulation test is correct and I could be ovulating? Or is the test somehow reacting to residual HCG hormones? Thank you

OPKs are useless following a mc especially while having a positive test. I found this.

I had retained products as still had positive test 3 weeks post ERPC and had to have a second op with hysteroscopy to get it all out. I then got a negative test 6 days later.

I would test again in another week and call your EPU who will scan you again xx

I had the op on 27th of July, & got my negative hpt on 5th of August. I waited until I got my negative until I started using opk’s, & I’ve only hit my peak this weekend, which is almost three weeks since op. I think they says it’s usually 2-3 weeks after you ov.

Thank you

Hi All,
Just following up on my post to get some advice please. I am now 4.5 weeks post my ERPC and did a pregnancy test today.
It was a digital pregnancy test and it came back positive 1-2 weeks. Could this be a true pregnancy positive or is it more likely to still be residual HCG causing it? Thanks

Have you had a negative? If not, it’s likely you have retained products. Speak to EPU and get a scan and 48 hour bloods. That will confirm if new pregnancy or retained products x

KEG01 · 30/08/2020 18:45

I did another pregnancy test 2.5 weeks after the miscarriage and it was positive. Then waited 2 weeks until this one at 4.5 weeks that was positive too. So didn’t do a test in-between those 2. So you think it is more likely to be retained products?

I would be thinking retained products as you’ve not had a negative test.

Although possible to be a new pregnancy also.

You need to call EPU for a scan and get them to do 48 hour bloods ASAP. It’s not impossible to be pregnant again but quite dangerous if there’s retained products there as a new pregnancy can end up in a tube, could be infections etc.

You really need to be checked out. X

Thank you...really appreciate the response and advice. Will get seen ASAP. Thank you! X

@KEG01 fingers crossed for you. It’s a shitty quandary to be in. I ovulated while still having HCG in my system and retained product so there was a possibility of new pregnancy as my tests got darker. They scanned me and I had bloods which showed a slight increase of a few points.

I’m 7 weeks after my second surgery and still waiting for AF to arrive. All I want is to be pregnant again and my body just isn’t playing ball anymore.

Good luck, keep me posted xx

KEG01 · 31/08/2020 13:57

Ah so sorry...such a tough experience you have been through! Did you have another ERPC second time, or do they do a D&C the second time round?
I hope you are feeling better now after second surgery? Did they rescan you after that to ensure everything gone this time?
It is so frustrating isn’t it! I just want me body to ‘reset’ itself so that I can try get back on track emotionally and physically. To get positive pregnancy tests is just like adding insult to injury. I think it must be retained products rather than new pregnancy, as I have had a bit of stuff coming out for the last few weeks which I thought had stopped a few day’s ago, but today I have had a bit more dark blood come out. Sorry if TMI! So hard as just don’t know what is happening and just want answers. X

Just an update for you...I just had a scan and there is indeed leftover tissue. So have to go back on Thursday or Friday this week to have the ERPC done again. Never ending nightmare this! Hopefully this will ‘reset’ things... Thank you for the support and advice. It has been very much appreciated. X

@KEG01 so sorry you have to go through another ERPC and it’s not all over for you.

The limbo is truly the worst.

I had a hysteroscopy the second time, so they used a camera to make sure they got everything. I would ask for one of those to be honest, it’s with an ERPC but they will know that they would’ve got everything out this time. I had a negative test about 4 days after the hysteroscopy.

Although it’s been 7 weeks, I’m still waiting on AF. Not even sure I’ve ovulated, so the limbo is still there for me. Can’t see why as my levels on day of surgery were in the 50s. I’m likening it to a child switching a light switch on and off and on and off and poof goes the trip switch! I’ll go to the docs next week to see if they will prescribe something to induce a period to try reset everything.

I hope the ERPC goes well and you recover quickly and AF returns quicker than mine and you get your rainbow. If you need to talk I’m here xx

KEG01 · 01/09/2020 23:50

Thank you for your kind words :) I hope everything goes well for you too and that AF comes soon so that you can get some sort of ‘normality’ going.

Did they use the hysteroscopy to also check everything else looked okay and there was no scarring etc? Was the recovery okay after adding the hysteroscopy on to the ERPC? Thanks xxx

TTCROYGBIV · 02/09/2020 12:38

They didn’t report any abnormalities, which is good news. Recovery was pretty much the same. On my ERPC though they topped up painkillers with fentanyl but on the hysteroscopy they used morphine which made me feel sick for a couple of days. I was up and about and back to work (albeit afternoon home) the very next day.

I’ve been referred to rmc now so have to have lots of bloods and other tests but they said they wouldn’t do another hysteroscopy as I’ve had one and nothing was noted. Xxx

TTCROYGBIV · 06/09/2020 18:34

@KEG01 how did you get on? Hopefully you are well xx

KEG01 · 06/09/2020 19:04

@TTCROYGBIV I have to wait until Tuesday next week to have the procedure done...they had no space in the theatres until then. Prolong the nightmare! So 1.5 days left to wait...
How are you doing? X

OP posts:
TTCROYGBIV · 07/09/2020 15:56

@KEG01 oh no. How crazy that you are having to wait.

Okay here, still no AF. Spoke to fertility nurse today and she wasn’t concerned it’s been 8 weeks. She said my body has been through lots of trauma so bound to delay things. Had a scan today, small cyst on left ovary but won’t get scan results until Wednesday. Officially hate the limbo now.
