No MMR immunity (despite vaccines as a child)

Hey,

We are now in the 12th month TTC and I had the first load of blood tests last week.

I've had the results back today and everything was satisfactory. Expect I don't have any immunity against MMR (despite having all the immunisations as a child which is strange). 🤷🏻‍♀️ So I have to go and have the vaccine next week.

Has anyone else had this?

Yes I have had it. It was found in my first pregnancy that I had no immunity. Because I was pregnant they could not give me the vaccine so I had it after the baby was born. Then in my second pregnancy they found I still had no immunity so I again I had it after the birth of my second child. That one seems to have worked because I was immune in my third pregnancy.

Bells3032 · 08/06/2020 14:37

Do they test you for this? i didn't get tested but doctor's contacted me as they were doing checks and didn't have records of mine and when i checked with my parents they couldn't find my form to say i'd have it done (I know my parents and i seriously doubt i didn't have it). However, nurse said to me since we don't have a record of it better to have it and not need it then not have it and then have needed it. So they gave it to me anyway. Wasn't so bad. two injections like 6 weeks apart.

All good.

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 14:40

@CleverQuacks That's crazy how you didn't get the immunity! Did you have two doses each time as an adult?

@Bells3032 yeah my blood tests I had on CD4 of my cycle. Did they say anything to you about not TTC in that time and after?

I think they test routinely during pregnancy because that is how I found out each time. No one could explain why I wasn’t developing immunity. Just one of those things I guess

babyboy20 · 08/06/2020 14:45

I had to have the mmr vaccine three times to get immunity whilst doing ivf apparently it doesn't work for some people and 3 times is max you can have it x

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 14:51

@CleverQuacks yeah definitely seems that way! Glad your immune bow.

@babyboy20 oh really?! Are you immune now? Did you have to postpone the ivf until a month after the vaccines?

I had to have an extra MMR because my Rubella antibodies were really low for someone who's been immunised. I had the MMR with one pregnancy and then 2 years later they told me it was low in my next pregnancy. I told them I had had it last time, and midwife said she'd look into it. She never got back to me so I didn't have it again. I think it just doesn't stick for me

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 14:54

@3LittleMonkeyz Thank you! Did you have them when you were TTC?

OP posts:
3LittleMonkeyz · 08/06/2020 15:00

@Fran2020

I didn't TTC they were surprises! Turns out oral contraceptives don't work any better for me than MMR vaccines! I must be faulty!

dublino · 08/06/2020 15:00

Hi. Yes when we were starting ttc doc didn't all my bloods as I have pcos. Cane back the my rubella was no longer immune and had to get another load of injections. Think I then had to wait 1 or 2 months before ttc again

3LittleMonkeyz · 08/06/2020 15:03

I did query at the time whether I should have it in pregnancy and I think I shouldn't have been given it. Didn't even realise that. I had it at the same time as my whooping cough. Confused

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 15:06

@3LittleMonkeyz Aww lucky you! TTC is taking so much longer than I thought it would!

@dublino ahhh thanks for that. That's what I'm afraid of. I know it's important to have the vaccines but putting TTC on hold is a shame. But I understand why it would be necessary. Although in research, the risk involved is theoretical.

@Fran2020 yes the ivf got delayed by two months in the end as they wouldn't let me
Start without getting immunity or having had the 3 injections. I was immune after the 3rd injection

3LittleMonkeyz · 08/06/2020 15:51

@Fran2020

I hope it happens for you soon Smile

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 15:56

@babyboy20 oh you had 3, I thought it was 2 injections for MMR? I guess I will have to wait too. But I would rather everything is as it should be. How did you get on with the ivf?

@3LittleMonkeyz Thank you, me too! 😊

OP posts:
babyboy20 · 08/06/2020 16:02

@Fran2020 I had each set of injections 3 times in the end, if it hadn't worked on the 3rd time they would let me proceed as that's the maximum amount you can have it but it did finally work.

Our first round of ivf wasn't great it didn't work and we didn't manage to get any Frosties

However, we switched to short
Protocol last year and I am due to give birth in 4 weeks time! 🥰

3LittleMonkeyz · 08/06/2020 16:17

Congratulations @babyboy20 xx

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 08/06/2020 16:26

I had immunity when I had DC1 but none when pregnant with DC2. Got a very snippy lecture from a midwife the only stopped when I pointed out that as I was immune less than two years previously by their own tests this wasn't a case of me not getting vaccinated.

After DC2 was born I had another course of MMR, think it was 2 doses.

More recently, as my trust have lost a 4 year chunk of my electronic files don't ask, the nurse at my GPs asked me to have another lot as I was flagged up as having only had a single dose when younger. She said there was a campaign at the time to get people to go and get it redone as the single dose had been proven not to be effective. Don't know if that was nationwide or not, but it does flag up every time I'm in the gp that I need another course of MMR and I have to explain I did during the missing period.

ArthurandJessie · 08/06/2020 16:31

Yes same ! Found out during pregnancy will get vaccinated shortly just measles though the other two I'm immune

Bells3032 · 08/06/2020 17:21

@Fran2020 yeah I thjnk they told me not to ttc for a few months but we weren't planning to for at least a year anyway

Fran2020 · 08/06/2020 17:58

@babyboy20 Awww congratulations! Glad it's been successful for you! 😊

@OhLookHeKickedTheBall So strange how the immunity can go like that! Annoying for the trust to lose your records! Looking at mine, I can see I had one dose when I was 4 and another when I was 16!

@ArthurandJessie Do they check your immunity when pregnant too then?

@Bells3032 ah I see, thank you! It's really frustrating because we've already been TTC 12 months and then we are going to have to wait again! For something I had when I was younger!
