Mirena IUD - GP won't take it out during Covid-19 emergency

I know this is low on the list of medical priorities in the midst of a global pandemic and I completely understand nurses not wanting to expose themselves to unnecessary risks.... however, I have been told today that I will probably have to wait for two months minimum, probably four, to remove my Mirena IUD. Do you think this assessment is realistic? And what if there is a second wave, then it might be a year or more.... I am almost 37 and feel I don't have a lot of time for ttc. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Hi, I’m in a similar situation. I’ve got a contraceptive implant that I want to get taken out to ttc but I have been told the same, that they are not removing them at the moment. They just said someone will be in touch when they start doing them again. I understand the difficulties but it is so frustrating!

Namechangewhy · 05/06/2020 21:24

Can you remove it yourself?

gonewiththerain · 05/06/2020 21:29

Can you afford to go private as it will probably be somebody very quickly.

gonewiththerain · 05/06/2020 21:30

Done not somebody

We are starting to do these now but it depends what resources the practice has, how many drs off sick etc. Advice is probably not to TTC just now. 2m is nothing.

You can do it yourself, just gently pull the strings. I've done it; much easier coming out than going in!

Mirena is so easy to pull out just give the strings a pull and it slides right out if you're feeling brave!
