OvuSense with PCOS. Should I buy it or not??

As the title states really. I've been researching the OvuSense for a while and really impressed with the sound of it, especially because it's supposed to be reliable with PCOS and medication etc, as I am on metformin for my PCOS.

So if anyone could share their experiences with me it would be fantastic. It is expensive, not too expensive but I want to see what other day first, before I splash out for the device and a 20 pound monthly subscription...

Thanks!

First off, there's usually some sort of offer on so try to use a code. A 12 month, one off subscription is cheaper than rolling monthly which you then have to cancel via PayPal if you want to stop.

I have PCOS and it hasn't helped me particularly as I'm not ovulating. All it confirmed for me was that my erratic temps matched my PCOS diagnosis.

It'll tell you once you have ovulated, not before so a lot of people match up OPKs which doesn't necessarily work if you have PCOS.

I'm about to start clomid and will use it to make sure I don't miss ovulation. There is a closed Facebook group which can give you more info and you can see the charts and ask questions.

I'm just coming up to a year of using it, I don't regret it but I'm not pregnant due to it helping if that makes sense. My body is particularly useless.

Ahhh thanks so much @YouBoggleMyMind really really helpful reply ☺️

One thing that I'm a little bit apprehensive of, is finding out that I don't ovulate at all, but I suppose the knowledge will be helpful either way. Although I do have a feeling that my body is particularly useless too as I've not managed a regular cycle since I was about 18 🥴 I've found a 25% off discount code so that's not too bad. I spend so much on OPK's some months so might be worth trying something new.

As silly as it sounds I think it's the subscription putting me off. Like you pay so much for the tracker and 20 pound a month seems a little steep but in the grand scheme of things I suppose I'm just being nit picky!

Just one more question, what is the app like and what kind of insights does it give you? I really like having some extra info if you get me!

Also had the same thought as our next step is clomid so if anything it will come in useful for that! Thank you x

This what it looks like. You can add in medications, when you have sex, how you feel, cervical mucus changed etc.

I would advise giving the website a really good read before hand, there is a specific section for PCOS.

It is measuring your core body temp, not your base basal temp so slightly different to traditional temping. You also don't have to do anything other than wearing over night for at least 6 hours and then download them to the app within 2 hours.

It will try to give you a heads up (you are in your ovulation window) but that can move or change at anytime so they advise having sex every couple of days throughout your cycle anyway and once you have ovulated it'll give you a date so you can then see your luteal phase length.

It certainly gives you insight into your cycle.

@YouBoggleMyMind fab, thanks so much! I'm just having a look through the Website and reviews! Your replies have been really helpful so thank you so much for that. I'm going to order one I think, only thing I haven't tried and if anything I'm hoping it will stop me from taking OPK's all the time and give me something new to focus on😂 thank you! X

Very happy to continue helping and answering any questions going forward. Always nice to chat to a fellow ovusense user and their journey too 😊

I used it, only for a few months and mostly to prove to my dr that I WAS ovulating as I had had the progesterone blood test which supposedly showed that I wasn't but I knew I was... if that makes sense.

I have PCOS (although limited symptoms except cycle can be a bit irregular and overweight) and it did sort of help with proving ovulation although I knew my body pretty well by that point and I was using sticks too.

Two months after I bought it, we saw the consultant and then realised there was a much bigger problem so did IVF. I wouldn't recommend buying the year just in case you hate it/something changes for you in a few months.

So yeah - overall useful, but not a year's worth of useful.

lillie07 · 25/05/2020 10:50

@YouBoggleMyMind you've been really helpful thank you! I've ordered mine today eeeek, like a kid at Christmas 😂 I'll post any questions on This thread once I receive it/have any queries if that's okay with you? Chats would be great as I don't know anyone else using one ☺️ I've also joined the Facebook page but a bit apprehensive of posting in case I know anyone on it haha!

@October2020 ahh thanks so much for replying, I'm mostly going to use it for seeing if I am ovulating so same as you. Just for a bit of insight as right now I have 0 idea if I'm ovulating or not! I have ovulated in the past I know, as we lost our baby last year and just haven't conceived since. So will be interesting and gives me something new to focus on. Definitely agree about the year, I'm just going to pay the monthly sub fee!

Would any of you recommend using ovulation sticks alongside or just stick to OvuSense only? Thanks! X

I did both but by that point we were three years in and throwing everything at the situation tbh.

If you've had enough of OPKs for a bit you could always stop for a few cycles and return to it when you've had a break from them?

SunnySunshine1990 · 25/05/2020 11:14

Hey,

I have PCOS, I used Ovusense for 3 months, just as the free trial was about to expire we fell pregnant! It's very accurate to tell you when you already have ovulated and I think it becomes more accurate in predicting when the more you use it. I really would recommend it :)
Best of luck xx

lillie07 · 25/05/2020 11:40

@October2020 ahh yeah I feel like that's us! Cycle 24 so willing to try anything.. but might take a little break from OPK's and focus on the OvuSense for a bit. Don't want to stress myself out! X

@SunnySunshine1990 ahh thanks so much for sharing your experiences! Really hoping I have the same luck! I've just ordered mine today so excited to start using it. can I ask, were you trying for long before you started using it? We've already been TTC for 2 years but to be honest my cycles are so crazy so it's possible we've missed it most months! Thanks again x

I had a 2 month free trial before committing to 12 months. My 12 months runs out in August. Another thing to note is the sensor itself has a 1 year life as it is a medical device. It'll remind you nearer the time that you need to get a new one (I think you just pay for postage but I'll confirm that when I do it soon!).

I think it is a good idea to use it along side other things so you can build up a full picture of your cycle and see what your body is or isn't doing.

SunnySunshine1990 · 25/05/2020 16:29

No worries @lillie07 :) we had been trying for a year, got pregnant a few months before using Ovusense but unfortunately ended in miscarriage.

I kept using ovulation strips alongside Ovusense too just to correlate the info, it's fascinating watching the graph each day when you upload your data!

I had pretty much stopped drinking whilst trying to conceive but I noticed that if I did have a couple of glasses of wine or beer there would be an increase in temp. I've read it shouldn't affect it too much but worth bearing in mind.

I have attached 2 months worth of charts, cycle 6 is the month we conceived.

I'm excited for you!!xx

@SunnySunshine1990 thanks so much for all the info, really helpful!! I think I might use some OPK's alongside, I'm just excited to see if I am ovulating or not, either way is fine I just want to see so I can start solving the problem!

Good to know about the drinking. I've stopped drinking too because it makes me feel sick when taking metformin weirdly! But sometimes I have the odd wine so good to know.

I will keep you updated and let you know how I get on! Congrats by the way, wishing you a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy 💛xxx
