Pregnancy following stillbirth

Hi all,

I'm really sorry I didn't know which board to post in to get the most traffic.

I gave birth to my son at 22 weeks after his heart stopped beating. This was 11 weeks ago.

I had postpartum bleeding after his birth which lasted about 5/6 weeks (I know this is normal as I already have an older child).

I then had a period about 3/4 weeks later as expected. Going by my "usual" cycles, I should have had my period start again on Wednesday gone but still nothing.

My H and I had unprotected sex twice since my last period as we are not trying, but not "not trying" either (if that makes any sense). Please don't have a go at me - I appreciate this must seem earlier after our son but it feels ok for us.

I took a pregnancy test on Friday afternoon and it showed negative.

Do you think it's likely just due to my body getting back to "normal"? Or do you think I could be pregnant?

It could be either, I think. I’d wait another couple of days and retest. I’m so sorry for what you’ve gone through

So sorry to hear about what you've gone through. If it's any help it took a while for my period to return after an early miscarriage and then my cycles were messed up afterwards. Do you have any other pregnancy symptoms?

Ermmmm, not really other than feeling verrrrry bloated the last few days - but again, that could be either!

I know nobody will know the answer, I suppose I was just looking to write it down somewhere if that makes sense 🙈

So sorry for what you went through. I hope I can help shed some light or even just know that you aren't alone.

Last year on Valentine's Day we lost our baby at 19 weeks, we didn't know if they were a he or she and at the time I didn't want to I couldn't have processed it and for me personally it would have been so much harder to recover.
I had extreme bleeding and a further two surgeries after due to retained placenta - and I finally had a 'normal' period in October. Before then I had no routine to my cycle. Literally I'd have a 2 week bleed then nothing for a few days then another bleed and nothing for 6 weeks then a two day bleed etc it just made no sense until in September I bled, then 3 days later had a very period like bleed for 5 days. 28 days later I had another period like bleed, then again in November. I am now 27 weeks pregnant and due in August.

I was absolutely desperate to fall pregnant as soon as possible and it just never happened but now I'm so thankful for the timing as although during COVID it's all a little odd, I am so ready - mentally AND physically.

So what I'm saying is .. like said above - it could easily be either. But try to enjoy the period in between because when it finally happens (if not already), it will be like the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow xxx

I really hope you don't mind me asking this, but were you a lot more closely monitored this time around?

I think you're probably right, I think it's just my body trying to get its "normal" back but in my head I'm hoping for happy news which deep down I know I'm not going to get! I'll test again in a few days and see what happens.

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your beautiful baby boy. I also lost a son around the same time in my pregnancy who was born alive but ultimately passed as he was just too little to survive his extreme prematurity. I have since gone on to have 2 healthy DC.

I also had an operation for retained placenta but after that my periods came back again in normal 28 day cycles after about 5/6 weeks. Good luck

Still no sign of AF and a second negative test. What's wrong with my body!!

I just want to say sorry for ur loss as i went through very similar situation in feb and loss our fordt baby girl at 23 weeks its devastating but i torally get u wanting to try again as we did and have been since ...i think that forst month is so hard to track and make just see what happens and if af come its a fresh start and ur body resetting itself however i do hope u have falling already.. im currently in my tww 8dpo today praying that i get my rainbow this cycle as my babys due date was 7th june so i was hoping our rainbow would show before then 🌈 all the baby dust in the world to u xx

@saylor sorry to hear about ur loss too, i also had the same op for retain placenta .. my waters broke too soon and i was in hospital a few days the baby was fine but then i lost too much waters and she died so had to give birth then had the retained placenta aswell .. my cycle went back to normal after my first af which took 6 weeks to arrive x

I really don't think I'm pregnant. I've had no symptoms or anything other than the "missed" period.

It's really making me worry though as normally I'm very regular and come on on exactly the correct day. I've done two tests and both are negative so I'm thinking maybe my body isn't back to its normal self which is scaring me a little bit as I thought it would be by now!

My period has EVENTUALLY came, almost two weeks late!

I'm feeling really relieved (not because I'm not pregnant, but because I have it eventually after 3 negative tests!)

I thought there was something wrong with my body. I'm HOPING this is the start of normality again as Saturday would have previously been my "usual" first day of bleeding!

Sorry for in your in loss. It can take your body time to get back to normal. I had a neonatal loss and it took about 3 months for my period to come back and then they were a bit irregular.

SANDS had a TTC and next pregnancy groups that kept me sane. Everyone is going through the same thing so understood worries etc.

Just to update @HBCM I did get my BFP this cycle, my due date for my baby girl was sunday just gone which was hard but then i had my first early scan on monday.. very surreal because my due date is the same week my baby girl was born still born 😢 just hope its a better outcome this time 🙏💙💖🌈 Feb 2021
