Help! Pregnancy tests are getting fainter and brown spotting!

Long story.
Got my first positive - very faint on 27th April.
On 28th April I started spotting brown, this turned into red spotting/light bleeding on 29th, 30th April & 1st May. Wore a pad but nothing ever went into the pad, was only there when wiping. Did a test on 1st May and it was darker than the one on 28th April. Red/brown spotting again on 2nd May. Then it turned brown for 3rd May and then stopped. 4th May I got a positive on a Clear Blue digital and a very good line (almost as dark as control) on a first response. Rang my doctor and he told me to see how I go over the next week and ring on Monday and can get me in for an early scan if still spotting.

Spotting started again on 7th May. Only brown and very very very light, hardly there but it's there, mostly in mornings.

Took a Clear Blue week indicator this morning and it only showed up with 1-2 weeks when judging by my last period I should be 5+3 weeks.
Also did another pregnancy test and it's lighter than they have been. Didn't have a first response to compare it against, but these were cheaper ones and I have used these before and got darker lines.

I just need some advice.
Stories of what other people have been through - good and bad.

I will be ringing my doctor on Monday so will be seeking medical advice but I just want to hear your stories and your opinions please.

Thank you!

Personally for me tests getting fainter has always been a bad sign (5 miscarriages) - lots of people will say the digital Clearblue aren't reliable but I've always ended up miscarrying If I haven't got to at least 2-3 weeks on the test by 5+1weeks x

Nannon145 · 09/05/2020 19:55

@ivfgottostaypositive thank you for your story. Can I ask (I'm sorry if you don't want to answer, don't feel inclined to do so I'm just clueless about it all) how soon after the tests getting fainter did you actually miscarry? In terms of starting to bleed?

I just feel like at this stage, if I did start bleeding heavily, at least I would know where I stand and then could try again in the future. As heartbroken as I am. At the minute this is just torture not knowing what's going on xx

Sorry you’re in limbo @Nannon145 it could be that the line isn’t as dark because you used a cheaper test and some of them don’t have much due in them. As for the CB digital some peoples HCG levels rise slowly so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

That said I had an early miscarriage in March got my BFP on a FRER on Thursday and Friday morning got pregnant 1-2 on a CB digital. I had another FRER so took it on Monday expecting to see a much darker line but it was fainter and my other CB digital said not pregnant. I started bleeding on the Wednesday.

Hope things turn out better for you x

Sorry you are going through this. I hope this is a positive outcome for you. My early pregnancy unit told me that faint lines or dark lines means nothing and tests vary depending on how diluted your wee is and as above the clear blue weeks indicator aren’t reliable .
That said I mc 2 weeks ago :( at 7 weeks. My lines started getting fainter and my clear blue went from 2-3 weeks til 1-2 weeks so I know it was accurate for me :( I have light red spotting that got a bit heavier over a 5 day window. Not enough to fill a pad and some small clots in day three but not enough to think I was 100% miscarrying. Barely any pain at all :( I was in limbo for 6 days and it was heart breaking. My tests went negative the day after I stopped bleeding.. I hopes urs is a different outcome and I sending good vibes! But wanted to give you an honest experience x

ivfgottostaypositive · 09/05/2020 21:15

@Nannon145

It depends really - some I bled whilst getting really dark positive tests others didn't start until Clearblue dropped to negative from 3+ x

Nannon145 · 09/05/2020 21:46

@Waiting2BAMummy I've used the same test before and got a darker line on it though, and then this morning and this afternoon it was the same lightness. Have some first response coming on Monday or Tuesday so I'll be able to judge them against the one I took on Monday 4th. Just so confused about what's happening. It's been almost 2 weeks now since my first positive and only that red spotting that was over a week ago now, other than that just brown so I'm confused as to what's going on. I'd rather bleed and now I'm miscarrying at home I think rather than go to the hospital and see nothing on a scan 💔 just don't want it to be prolonged.
I know there can be good stories that come out of things like this but I just feel with the spotting I've had and now the fainter tests that it can't be a good outcome.
I just worry about the future now, if I do miscarry this baby, does that affect my chance of having a baby in the future?
So sorry to hear about your loss ❤️

@2020wish I've taken all of the tests I've done with first morning urine so always been very concentrated so I don't see how they can be affected but obviously that is what the professionals say so there's got to be some truth in it. I have seen a lot of people say the Clear Blue are unreliable but I dunno, I've got a really bad feeling about it all.
So sorry to hear about your loss ❤️ did you not have a lot of bleeding then with your loss? I did have 3 days of red light bleeding last week but it wasn't even heavy enough to go into the pad so don't think that could have been a chemical??? And had darker positives since then. Did you're bleeding never get heavy then? Lighter than a period? That's interesting! Because I may have already had my chemical in that case but I am still getting positive pregnancy tests so maybe not.
I appreciate the honest opinion, I really do.
I'm honestly not getting my hopes up about this pregnancy. Don't get me wrong I've been absolutely heartbroken and there's been times that I haven't been able to stop sobbing. It's crazy the attachment you get to a little thing that's not even bigger then a pumpkin seed that's only been there for 3/4 weeks. But, I'm not expecting this pregnancy to continue at all. I would just rather bleed now so I know where I stand but it just seems to be being prolonged and prolonged. I can't stand it, it's like torture!
My only worry now is being able to have children. If this is a miscarriage, am I not going to be able to have children? I want a child so badly 💔

@ivfgottostaypositive okay.. I will continue to test and maybe I have to be at a negative pregnancy test before I bleed, I don't know. Either way I will be contacting my GP on Monday to see if I can have some help. I think he'll end up sending me for an early scan but I don't want to see there's nothing there. That'll be heartbreaking 💔 especially when I'm going to have to go on my own because of this lockdown x

Just wanted to offer a virtual hug- I had similar in early March. Tests getting stronger then one day nothing. I checked on a few brands and they all were bfn. I freaked out a bit as I have a history of ectopic but the hospital said they wouldn't scan if I was now getting negative tests. I started bleeding the day after and had some back pain with it and it lasted a little longer than my normal period.

One thing I would mention is your fertility is supposed to be higher after a loss (if this is what's happening to you) I got pregnant with my dd the month after my ectopic after ttc for a year.
There is nothing to say an early miscarriage will mean you have fertility issues so have hope x

Nannon145 · 09/05/2020 23:09

Thank you @Sammyclaire22x I'm trying. Just such a heartbreaking time. Just waiting for something to happen 💔 when we decided to try for a baby, I never thought I'd be feeling like this a couple of weeks after getting a positive pregnancy test

Sorry wrong thread!

It's not over til it's over.... and either way take comfort from the fact you have had a bfp so it's clearly possible. And the wait ttc just makes it all the more worthwhile when you do get your baby x

2020wish · 09/05/2020 23:47

@Nannon145 yes I only bleed for 5 days. I woke up in the Thursday to bright red blood when I wiped, on Friday it spotted onto pad, Saturday it seemed a bit heavier but no heavier than a light periods and small clots (same as I would get on period) and on Sunday brown spotting on and off and Monday small brown spotting when wiping. No pain. Had private scan and womb empty. I still feel empty and those 5 days of bleeding felt like the hurt was prolonged as I had no answers and tests still positive . But then again my sister bleed out pretty heavily at 6 weeks and he’s now a mad 3 year old . So honestly stay positive as ur tests are still positive. That prolonged limbo is horrible, I get you. Maybe try and get a private scan?

Miscarriages are common and doesn’t mean you can’t have a baby. I’ve a 8 year old so I know I can carry but sometimes it just doesn’t work out and I’m hoping next time I catch I will carry full term. Point is stay positive, and as they say , the fact that you have got pregnant means that you can, I hope this turns out good for u. Please keep me updated

@2020wish pregnancy test even lighter this morning, I'm starting to wonder if the bleeding I had last week was the miscarriage. Is the only way I'll know is by having a scan to see if everything is gone? X

2020wish · 10/05/2020 11:41

@Nannon145 yes unless ur tests go negative this week x

Some epu clinics do a 48hr hcg test to see if it’s dropping or raising also

BYHA12 · 10/05/2020 12:13

Hey!
Iv had 2 miscarriages in a row! First one sounds exactly like ur story positives, started spotting even got a digital pregnant on a test and next day full on bleeding! And then the next month I had the exact same experience however my first response test was very faint.. (I still have pictures of the test if you want to compare to yours, your more than welcome) the next day I started to bleed... I am now pregnant again and my tests are ALOT more darker than the 2 times I have miscarried.. I have also experienced brown spotting this time which made me think I was miscarrying however my tests were a lot darker after the spotting.. so now I'm just waiting to test tomorrow I'm going to wait till I hit 5 weeks before I call the docs as that is when I usually miscarry.. hope that gives u some insight and all the best x

DressingGownofDoom · 10/05/2020 12:23

Sounds very much like my miscarriages. Sorry lovely Thanks

Nannon145 · 10/05/2020 15:28
