Anybody fell pregnant from the pull out method?

I 100% know this is not a form of contraception, I’m just wondering how likely it would be?

The other night DP and I used this method for the first time, we usually use condoms. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I was pregnant, we have a 2 year old DS but the timing is quite bad with everything going on in the world, financial strain from being self employed etc and it just makes me nervous to imagine a pregnancy at this uneasy time.

Of course this is the month I didn’t track periods (lockdown has sent my organisation skills crazy) but from figuring out a rough date from memory I think we had unprotected sex during my fertile days and I believe I’m due on any time from now or the next couple of days. I’m having no AF symptoms and I feel oddly like I’m pregnant but not sure if it’s just in my head due to the circumstance. I have ordered pregnancy tests to arrive tomorrow from amazon (hoping it’s not too early to test). I will update on the results but I’d love to hear about others experience?

Historically, millions upon millions of women have got pregnant in spite of using this 'method' to try to control conception. If it worked, reliably, there would never have been sufficient demand for either barrier or hormonal contraception.

Me, we used it for 8 years before I fell pregnant- whoops!

golddustwomen · 09/05/2020 22:53

Yep, he's nearly 3!

Yes, my SIL. Twice. Why she still used it after the first "mistake" I don't know. Neither does she actually. She has the coil now.

CiderWithRosy · 09/05/2020 23:18

Yes, he's nearly 13. It is not really contraception.

My best friend did.

She had an abortion.

It was heartbreaking for her because it was just the wrong time. But she also felt she had no right for sympathy because she knew the risks.

Wouldn't advise it unless an baby unplanned baby is fine if it happened.

Those of you who fell pregnant did you pull out well before climax or was it right at the last minute?

CiderWithRosy · 10/05/2020 10:01

Pretty much last minute.

To be fair millions of women have also remained unpregnant using this method. It’s not reliable enough to use if it’s very important for you not to be pregnant, but for populations without access to industrial condoms and hormonal contraception it can make a big difference to the birth rate, along with abstinence from PIV sex. Withdrawal, PIV-abstinence and condoms (in the sense of ticking the box saying that you use condoms) all have a similar high failure rate in the real world, and mostly for exactly the same reason, but they’re a lot better than nothing if you don’t have any better options.

No and and we’ve used it for years but we wouldn’t mind having a third so happy to take this risk.

BergamotMouse · 10/05/2020 10:35

I'm in the same boat! Realise it's a stupid (non existent) method of contraception. Bloody Mother Nature making me feel all risky! Time will tell. Won't be ideal for us.

Ohfrigginghellers · 10/05/2020 10:53

Me and hubby have been doing it for a while but he pulls out long before and I use my hand then (sorry if tmi). Wouldn't be the end of the world if we had a third. He has been referred for the snip but no idea when it will come about now.

Babdoc · 10/05/2020 10:57

Hence the very old joke: “What do you call people who use the withdrawal method of contraception?
Parents!”

Did you find out if you were pregnant? Currently in the same situation
