CB ovulation test - negative, then straight to static smiley. No flashy. Why?

Hi,

So we're still in the process of deciding whether we want to TTC, but in preparation I've been tracking my cycle over the past 6 months or so.

They are generally fairly regular - every 28-30 days, ovulating around day 12-14 and I can normally feel it quite strongly. I'd get 2 or 3 days of flashy smileys and then the static. However, the past two cycles, I've had empty circles and then straight to a static smiley.

I understand that when it flashes, it's indicating that your estrogen levels are rising, which is then followed by your LH surge, so if I'm not having that, does that mean my estrogen levels are declining? Sad

My 36th birthday is just round the corner and so I'm worried that my fertility is maybe decreasing. I did have a fertility test last winter and my results were very good, but I suppose things can dip at any time.

I just wanted to see how common this was.

Should I be worried?

Thank you Smile

I would say it just means you had a short surge. Also those tests are not infallible. I've used them a lot to get pregnant ( 5 miscarriages, 1live birth and now pregnant again). Last time I used them I i was getting blank circle but had all the signs of gearing up to ovulation so I went out and bought another kit. Tried the same urine with the two different kits next day. One was still blank and the other went straight to static smiley. I'd say it's good if you're ovulating

@lockdownlowdown, I'm sorry for your losses Flowers

Hmm perhaps the cheapy Amazon ones are more accurate. I suppose I just like seeing a clear, obvious result, but if that result is inaccurate....then maybe not Hmm

If it is correct though, I'm wondering if a shorter surge is still an indication of decreasing fertility.

Thank you. Well they've got me pregnant quick lots of times. I've always used them so I would still recommend them. It was only that last time it was dodgy. I could never get a strong line on the cheapy opks and like a definite yes or no.
Just keep going and try not to worry. Are you managing to dtd on the day of the smiley? I found I always caught if I managed it on the day of the smiley. The couple of times I only managed in the run up I didn't get pregnant ( I know they say before ovulation is better but didn't seem to work for me)

LockdownLiquidLunch · 29/04/2020 17:58

@lockdownlowdown, ah, ok. If it was just once, it wouldn't worry me so much, but because it happened again this month, I just started to wonder why.

Well DP and I could DTD on that or any other day, but unless there's a miracle, there would be no baby, as DP is a woman Grin

I will be needing to go down the donor route.

Oh that's great! You won't have to put up with the sperm donor not being in the mood or getting stage fright 😂 nothing worse than waiting all month for ovulation and then them flaking out on you!

LockdownLiquidLunch · 29/04/2020 18:28

Haha nope! Just defrost and away we go 👍😁

I’ve had months where I’ve had empty circle, flashy smile and static smile, and months where it goes straight from empty circle to static. Last month I got an empty circle on a Friday morning, but that night I felt like I was ovulating and tested again and got a static smile.

LockdownLiquidLunch · 30/04/2020 11:52

@Slippingcareer, ah ok. Maybe it's more common than I thought then.
