Anyone else have a coil but want to ttc?

Hi!

I really want to think about TTC DC2 soon. Obviously I wouldn’t expect an appointment for an iud removal but I just wondered if there is anyone else in the same situation and what your plans are? Or if you have spoken to a doctor and been given any information on when they may be able to perform these procedures?

DD will be 2 in July and ideally I wanted a smaller age gap. I understand this may not be possible but I am someone who likes to plan. I feel quite anxious about not knowing timescales.

I know I am lucky, and with my age I’m not in a rush. Just wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue? Smile

Hi,
I am in a similar position. I have 2 DC with a previous partner, now with my DH and we would like to try for a child together in next few months, but I have the contraceptive implant and I don’t think I can get it removed at the moment. Sorry no advice, just wanted to let you know I’m in the same position!

WafflesandPancakess · 22/04/2020 13:26

Hi @BerylSilverstone thanks for your reply. Smile

It’s difficult isn’t it. It can’t be classed as an emergency so I wouldn’t expect an appointment that soon. Then I can imagine the massive waiting list when these type of appointments become available again. (I go to a drop in evening clinic). Which normally is a good month wait anyway.

So realistically we may be looking at 6 months or more?

I don’t think I will get the sibling age gap that I was expecting but trying to be positive!

I had my coil removed yesterday, I have been trying since the lock down with no success, been tried to go private. I contacted my local sexual clinic again (last time was 3 weeks ago). I said that i thought it had moved so they called me in and removed straight away.

i am not trying to conceive (3 months pp!) and i want a coil please NHS thank you Confused

WafflesandPancakess · 22/04/2020 14:09

Oh dear @MerryDeath well they may be able to do it for you?

I love my coil it’s the only form of contraception that’s ever worked for me after years of depression on the pill!

@nlm82 I guess if it’s moved or is causing you discomfort/ not working or causing side effects they’d have to help you.

Keep trying local sexual health clinic mine were fab.

WafflesandPancakess · 22/04/2020 14:20

Okay thank you! I haven’t actually contacted them yet as I just assumed they wouldn’t be able to do it.

Usually they have a wait list but ideally I would like ttc around July if DH is on board!

i accept no liability but i think if i was in your shoes i'd be googling DIY removal because i think it's literally just pinch and pull. when i had my previous one out it w as nothing.

MerryDeath · 22/04/2020 15:35

apparently that's a bad idea but I'm notorious for those

WafflesandPancakess · 22/04/2020 15:45

Haha I actually did good diy removal but it’s so dangerous. Could cause all sorts of damage so I wouldn’t dare! I agree it is quick I have had one before and was in and out in 2 minutes.

I’m the same, keep thinking I should just phone up and ask but then I’m pretty sure as it’s not an emergency it won’t be possible. Then I feel a bit guilty for asking at this time! But then as WafflesandPancakess says there’s bound to be a backlog once this is all over so I’m left wondering will I even be able to get the implant removed this year!
