Mirena coil removal but no period - worried

Hi,

I had my mirena coil removed on the 6th of March, as my fiance and I really want to have a baby. We started trying straight away as the nurse who removed it said there was no reason not to, and that there was a chance we could fall pregnant straight away.

I've still not had a period, and I've done several pregnancy tests but just get BFN's.

I'm so worried that having the coil has messed me up, and I've read stories where people never have their periods return.

I'm so so scared that I won't be able to get pregnant now and that it's made me infertile :( I regret ever having it put in now.

Has anyone else been through this?

I had mine removed end of march and no period since I know it isn't waiting long but it is still making me worried, have you had yours yet?

I had lots of issues with the mirena coil that messed up my hormones but my periods did return and I am pregnant now. Try not to worry, it might take a while for the synthetic hormones to leave you body.

I've had the mirina coil twice and had them removed both times to get pregnant. I didn't try straight away and my periods didn't become regular for a good few months but as far as I know it's absolutely fine to start trying as soon as it's removed, but obviously it's harder to know when you're ovulating without a regular period.

I have the app Clue which is very handy and you can track symptoms (not just bleeding) on a daily basis so you might be able to start working out some sort of pattern.

Good luck!

I had two Mirena coils and the pill before so 17 years with no periods. I was told that it would take about 6 -8 weeks to get my first period. I had mine removed on the 9th October and first period was 13th December so about 9 weeks, been 24-27 day cycles since and had a miscarriage in March.
It will return but there are lots of other factors too, so stress, worry, food, sleep, weight all Effects it too. Easier said than done but try to forget about it for a few more weeks and then hopefully they will
Return.

Hi thanks for the add! Hi all- here goes first post, I hope it’s allowed

So myself and my partner have decided to have a child- I have 2 from a previous relationship I had them at 16 and 23 I’m now 30- and we are ready to have one- so I had the 5 year coil (hormone one) out on the 22nd of febuary- the GUM Dr said yes your fertitlty will come back no
Problem- so of course I bought fertitly sticks and left it abour 2 weeks I was fertile ect, anyways it’s been now 13 weeks NO period no Postive pregancy test, I was very disheartened when I went to the Gp about anothrr issue and mentioned no period her response was oooh yoir getting old now, you need to loose weight, (made me feel awful) in my head I’m thinking my times up, I can’t have any more- my partner is also been reffered to a cronologist (I think it’s called) for low testorone, and thyroids- every so that’s another factor. Anyways every time I get a twinge- sign I do a test- and I’m always disheartened feel down- my children have asked for another sibbling to! What if I can give them that I feel so down about it all and the way I’ve been treated by the NHS
I have had the coil in for 7 years- one for 5 then a new one in 2020 I’m worried I’ve messed up my fertility! 😭

Sorry about the long post ❤️

Writing this to help anyone who might be in the same situation as I was. I had my Mirena removed in Jan 2021. No period for a year. My doc tested all hormone levels, everything normal. She then gave progesterone to kick start period. Nothing happened, no period. FINALLY I had an ultrasound and guess what, the HORMONE SLEEVE that surrounds the middle part of the IUD was still inside of me. "Just sitting there, not stuck." This was particularly crazy because the doc showed me the full "T" when she removed it -- she just didn't know that the hormone part could come off. Supposedly none of the docs in the office or even the OBs at the local hospital had heard of this happening. I am so thankful I was able to discover the cause and not think I was suddenly infertile as I have read so many women say all over the internet. Please insist on an ultrasound if you are still waiting for your period months after removing Mirena IUD!
