Are you going to carry on trying to conceive?

Hi ladies,

Are you all going to try to carry on conceiving now or going to stop?

It's abit of a hard one isn't it, I feel like I should stop because it's a difficult time etc and I've been under treatment etc

But now I'm thinking if this goes on for 12-18 months then we are wasting time?

Please help

I’m stopping for the next few months. I don’t want to get pregnant now and then have the CV get more and more and more serious over the coming months

I'd wait at least until summer to see how things pan out....they say we are meant to hit the peak in June and personally I wouldn't want to be attending midwife/hospital appointments at the height of everything. I think it would be a nightmare. Hopefully by August/September we will be on the decline or at least have a better idea of when that might be.

No. I'm pregnant but I'm pretty sure I'm miscarrying. And if I am, we won't try again for a while.

If a vaccine isn’t found, next winter could see another spike in infection with corona, and hospitals overwhelmed again. I really wouldn’t plan a pregnancy now if I could avoid it. We need to know much more about how this thing is going to pan out before getting pg.

Honestly seems really not sensible? If you are already then obviously not much can be done. But to plan it would be ludicrous. I'm 37 and struggling with TTC but would you really choose to bring a child into this madness? If there are complications, the hospital is the last place you'd want to end up. Can't wait vs being dead? Seems like a no brainer to me.

I’m 5+3, got my BFP 2 weeks ago, and honestly I feel like I’m bringing a child into the apocalypse and is terrifying. DH and I are more secure than many, but having gone from the perfect time to have a baby a month ago to what seems like an awful time right now... if I’d known what was coming I would have waited. Just praying for a healthy baby now though.

I don't blame anyone from being put off TTC ATM. It's a scary fine with a lot of unknowns ahead.

I'm going to carry on for now though. There's enough food and other essentials in the country, we are financially secure even in the midst of this virus, and neither me or DH are in a high risk group.

I fully understand not everyone feeling this way though.

I am not going to stop. Been ttc for ages, already have an older child and and also not getting younger. If I fall pregnant now, we just have to make the best of it. We also have secure jobs so not worried financially.

AF due next week, if she arrives we’re going to hold off trying properly for a while (ie no protection but not going to track ovulation or DTD specific days etc) it’s a very uncertain time. More for money reasons than anything.

One thing I hadn’t thought of until someone else said it, is the reason they are probably isolating pregnant women is because you can’t be sure of no birth defects yet - women who have had it in the third trimester are fine, but it hasn’t been around long enough to be sure of women in their first trimester. I was going to carry on TTC but now not so sure.

Try buying nappies and formula from the shop. Never mind the health issues or birth complications that might arise. The shelves are bare.

It’s because everyone is panic buying not because we are running out of things. If I fall pregnant now, I wouldn’t need nappies until December! Anf people all around the world have babies and don’t have access to nappies anr the babies still survive!! Nappies are not essential items for a baby you know!

I breastfed my first child for 9 months so should be ok on the formula side of things.

@AdriannaP and what about the potential of birth defects/miscarriage/stillbirth ? Or do you not care as long as you have a child?

Also just because you were able to BF your first, that doesn’t mean you will be able to with your second

There's no particular reason to suspect birth defects. True it's theoretically possible that it could cause some if the mother has it in early pregnancy, but that's very unlikely; Zika was unusual in that regard. I understand people wanting to hold off just in case, but it's not something to consider likely.

Also formula is no different to nappies; there's not a shortage in the country, periods are just panic buying. One everyone's cupboards are full things in the shops at least will go back to normal

There is no evidence anywhere that Coronavirus will lead to stillbirth/miscarriage and birth defects. Of course I care I had a miscarriage last year and it’s horrific. I can’t put my life on hold now for this. You realizw it may last 12-24 months right? By then I might be too old to have another child.
And PP is right, thwre is NO shortage of anything in this country. Just stupid and selfish people hoarding and panic buying.

I understand some people are concerned and it’s true it’s a new virus and we any guarantee there won’t be risks, but I wish people would stop worrying others here. It’s fine to recommend holding off but you are forgetting that some of us have been DTD over the last few weeks before this became a pandemic and it’s going to cause upset to guilt and worry us all. Also we are all in different situations across health, jobs, age and lifestyle so please be kind.

I've had a break from it this month due to everything going on and I'm glad I did! I feel much more relaxed (was heading into cycle 5 which I know isn't a lot but was starting to get obsessed). No OPKs, no counting the DPOs it's been lovely! My friend is due to give birth in a few weeks - I was once jealous but her maternity leave has been nothing like she planned and her home birth wishes can't happen any more. I'm slightly relieved I haven't fallen pregnant before now as a result. I think I'll give it another month or so before trying.

Everyone has their own reasons for trying or not, so there's no right or wrong answer, just whatever you feel is best for you.
