Progesterone pessaries for short luteal phase and spotting before period

Hi all,

My husband I went for a private appt this week and was prescribed progesterone pessaries for short luteal phase and spotting before period. I spot for 5-7 up to my period and my luteal phase is usually 9-11 days.

Is anyone out there simular with a success story?

I am so glad we went private just to put my mind at ease and get something to try. The initial appt was £150 and progesterone approx £20 for 2 cycles.

I have a similar situation, iv been prescribes pessaries to take with clomid cycle starting next week.

I have spotting from 6dpo - and then af on day 14. however when I have a bowel movement (sorry tmi) I seem to get bright red bleeding - defiantly from the front. I wonder if I have cervical erosion! im a bit worried.
im seeing a private IVF clinic in a couple of week for further tests and hoping they can help!

I hope the pessaries help you!

Morpho123 Hi there!

I hope that the pessaries help you too! I would advise wearing a pad to bed, they can be messy!

Interested. I've been to the GP with this issue. No one was really interested. I have cervical erosion but I bleed too much for it to just be that I'm sure. I also get the bright red bleeding. Scan and day 2 blood tests normal.

I was going to go back after so long TTC (possibly not ideal timing now) but I'm trying progesterone cream this month to see if it makes the blindest bit of difference.

My cycles are 26-27 days usually. Ovulate day 11 or 12. But bleeding varies. Sometimes its from ovulation. Sometimes from day 22. Sometimes from somewhere in between. Can be light (it's not exactly spotting mind) or actually quite a lot. It's also mostly red.

Hi @paintfairy do you find it worse with a bowel movement? I’m really concerned. I spot light brown in the luteal phase but every time I go to the toilet for a bowel movement it’s bright red bleeding. It’s quite distressing because I know it’s not my period. It stops after a bowel movement and returns to light brown spotting until af arrives! X

@morpho123 I kind of assumed it was because you were pushing the blood out? So normally it sits there longer but because you are pushing more comes? I have red on and off anyway. Yes I do get it with a bowel movement.

Morpho123 · 19/03/2020 15:11

I agree it’s because of the pushing but where is this blood coming from if it isn’t my period? It has got worse every month! Last month I had it once with BM, and this month it’s been with every BM in my luteal phase xx

I assumed I had LP defect. And I bleed after ovulation. However, although they mentioned the cervical erosion, she told me that unless it was bothering me (bleeding after sex) then it wasn't connected. I only read actually recently that it could be! So I kind of assumed it was accumulating from my LP issue and coming out slowly, but when you push- it comes out more?

However, I now have no idea if any of it is related to the cervical erosion or not? But for how much I usually get I'd assumed it was coming from my uterus.

I'm due on next Thursday. I've been using progesterone cream. Obviously it might do nothing. But if it does, then its clearly hormonal. However, both areas of bleeding are said to be hormonal anyway! So I really don't know if that helps or not.

So far I've had spotting on and off but it's been really tiny. Nothing that would bother me. No bright red either. However, the next week will tell!

And - I'm spotting today. 🙄

Hi I have exactly the same issue but gp not helping. Can you please share the details of the doctor you went to?

Zee884 · 07/04/2021 19:50

Hi @Rae444
How did you get on with the pessaries? Sorry I rralise this was over a year ago but just about to start mine for a short LP, and flying blind as my GP hasn't a clue really. So wanted to see how you got on and any tips?

Rae444 · 07/04/2021 20:36

Hey, I did one a day for 7 days, from 3dpo. It stopped all spotting for about 6 months. I then had a tiny bit so was upped to 2 a day.
Still no pregnancy so had a round of ivf in Jan that didn't work. Having another transfer in Sept.

@Rae444 thanks very much for getting back to me. I am sorry your first IVF round didn't work and I hope you're feeling okay.
Thanks again for replying, I'm nervous about starting them so this helps!

Rae444 · 08/04/2021 09:27

1 a day didn't make me have side effects really. I also recommend butt as its much less messy.
I did 4 a day for ivf and I was bloated af! Good luck, hope they help !
