How can I help bring periods back to TTC no.2? Breastfeeding

Daisychain12 · 25/02/2020 11:58

My son is 15 months and still breastfeeding. I'm trying to wean him, but making slow and steady progress.

My periods still haven't returned! I take it because I'm still bfing? Is there anything I can do to encourage them to return, apart from weaning? We'd love to get cracking TTC no.2!

Any tips or advice greatly appreciated ❤️

I read a really good article about what effect bf has on your cycles. I'm still feeding once or twice a day but had my periods back about a year and they are regular- but still worry it might have an effect!

@Sammyclaire22 wow - this is the most detailed and explanatory thing I've read on this whole palaver! So helpful. Thank you 🙌

I know it's so good! And fyi I got my bfp this morning so you don't have to wean totally, just enough to get your cycles back. X

I got mine back while still bf a lot, but that was just before he turned 2 years. It was a long wait.

Hi, I’ve just weaned my 26 month old DS (I had to stop abruptly in the end as I fractured my elbow and needed surgery but we had been planning on it anyway) and now my period has totally disappeared. It’s 5 days late (def not pregnant) which might be due to stopping breastfeeding. It had been regular before then. Desperate to TTC number 2.

Will read the article. Weaning is such a hard process but we just gently cut out one feed a day. But as previous poster said you may not have to. Might be worth using Opks to see if you’re ovulating?

@BessMarvin the wait just feels like forever, doesn't it. Lots of other mamas I know were bfing and had them come back pretty quickly. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Thank you 🙏

I agree with gently cutting out feeds, I had to drop some due to going back to work and by 9m i struggling to get much out pumping. I then cut out my early morning feed at about 14m and swapped her to milk. Now I do an after nap feed (if I'm not working) and bedtime (my favourite) but she's started to not feed as much so wonder if she's self weaning now Sad
The main thing to remember is there is no normal, only what is normal for you. Xx

Daisychain12 yes definitely. I had a couple of bf friends who had a second quite quickly. It took sooo long. She's 4 months old now! I think it's 92% of bf women get their period back by 2 years pp so I felt a bit unlucky.

My 3 year old decided to stop bf once my milk dried up in pregnancy (which doesn't always happen but more likely to than not I think).

There is a useful Facebook group specifically on this subject. PM me if you're interested.
