Hi everyone,

Basically, I had ovulation confirmed on 3rd Feb by ultrasound. Either the ultrasound was wrong and I haven't ovulated (doctor said this is unlikely) or I'm pregnant and am not getting a BFP, as doctors say luteal phase shouldn't ever go longer than 16 days. Stress can shorten luteal phase but not lengthen it. Also, I don't have PCOS as all hormone bloods and ultrasound showed no abnormalities that could lengthen my luteal phase.

Does anyone know of this happening ever before? I so want to be pregnant as been trying for 14 months now! If I hadn't been told about ovulation happening on the 3rd I wouldn't be so worried.

Ok but why is “ultrasound was correct but i am not being pregnant” not a possibility?
I am confused...
Ovulation doesn’t mean pregnancy

I'm currently 26 weeks' pregnant with third baby. Took two cheapie HPT's from ebay about two/three days after period due and both negative. Then took a shop-bought more expensive one the next day and a very clear positive!

Ovulation is just one part. Maybe the egg didn't like the look of the sperm. Maybe the sperm weren't in the right place to meet the egg. Maybe they did fertilise but it didn't implant. Maybe the egg was faulty. Maybe the sperm were faulty. 🤷‍♀️

@Michette I know that... But it does mean period or pregnancy due to how the corpus luteum works, and I haven't got my period yet (at least 5 days late now).

@RainMinusBow that's such cool news. Unfortunately I'm getting negatives on every kind of test. I've done FRER, One-step Amazon cheapies, clearblue early tests, and nothing... 19-21DPO now

@calimommy no clue. Been trying for 14 months and we are having tests as we speak. Mine are all perfect. DH is having sperm analysis on Monday. All I know is I've ovulated this month and I should've either got my period by now as the corpus luteum would have broken down, or got a positive as I'm 5 days late. Just really confused.

@calimommy good description of why it just doesnt work.

@iRawra i dont think these things are exact science unfortunately... many threads here with ladies late for period but not pregnant.
A few too with pregnancy showing later on a test but that would assume later ovulation- maybe your case?

Nobody knows really... Unfortunately

The most likely explanation is that you ovulated, but are not pregnant and your period is just late. False negative pregnancy tests (unless you test too early) are vanishingly rare. Ovulating, but not conceiving is many multiples of times more common.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I just can't find anything online with anyone who has had such a long luteal phase and not got their period and ended up not pregnant. I wouldn't even be worried if my ovulation wasn't confirmed, and would just think I hadn't ovulated yet etc. Even the doctor thought it was weird that I've not got my period or a positive.

Unfortunately there are a huge number of couples with unexplained infertility, everything appears to be in working order but it's not resulting in pregnancy. X

If you have used a variety of tests I imagine you are not pregnant and you are having a longer cycle.
