A close friend had her first & only at 44. A cousin and a colleague both conceived naturally with their first babies at 43 and went on to have a second baby at 45.

WatcherintheRye · 23/02/2020 00:26

I conceived dc3 naturally at 45 - gave birth 16 days before my 46th Birthday! Smile

Legoandloldolls · 23/02/2020 00:37

Yes fairly quickly a few months after trying at 43 but had a MC at 8 weeks.

Summer78 · 04/11/2021 10:42

Scared but really want my daughter to have a sibling.

sandgrown · 04/11/2021 10:45

I was 45 when I had my “surprise “ baby .

CateyA · 03/01/2022 15:23

Oh wow so many positive stories. We’ve just decided to try as we think a sibling for our little one would be amazing. I was expecting doom and gloom but this thread however old has made my day :-)

LLB79 · 12/11/2022 12:28

Aww I thought there'd be doom and gloom on this thread too..feel quite positive now..currently trying at 43..fingers crossed xx

Everythingzrosie · 12/11/2022 21:00

I’m 44 and got pregnant first ‘try’ ie dh didn’t pull out like we had been doing for months previously. Sadly I MMC at almost 11 weeks but hoping for another bfp …

Luckystar7jf · 12/11/2022 21:25

I am 42 fell pregnant in April but sadly ended in medical termination. Trying again since august, 43 in January. X

PoodlesAreMySpiritAnimal · 12/11/2022 22:05

Me! I’m a month off being 43 and I’ve unexpectedly conceived on first cycle of trying.
I have a 2 year old son already and had a missed miscarriage in June at 11 weeks.
My tips would be to have sex regularly and try to keep stress low. Eat enough and don’t work out too much. I always seem to conceive after a holiday!
If you can, try not to fixate on getting pregnant!! So hard if you badly want it though.

acupuncture is supposed to be good for people having difficulty conceiving (I’m not suggesting you are - I just thought I’d pass on the info!!)

LLB79 · 17/11/2022 09:11

Thanks for the positivity...I've already got a 20 year old and a 12 year old..I had 2 miscarriages at 41..both in the same year..so fingers crossed it will happen again..also trying not to think about it..and go with the flow 😄 my brothers wife is an acupuncturist so that's good to know 😄

Quitelikeit · 17/11/2022 14:57

Bumping, any other tips to help conception as an older mum?

canyoutoleratethis · 17/11/2022 15:08

I can join this club! Currently pregnant at 42, and have one DD from when I was 40. Luckily I appear to fall pregnant pretty easily, I think the bigger issue is egg quality and whether I miscarry (I had a miscarriage over the summer, at my first attempt after DD). This is my first attempt after the miscarriage and I'm fortunate to be pregnant again, but very nervous at the moment with this current pregnancy and desperately hoping it sticks.

BabyMamma7 · 17/11/2022 19:26

I'm 42 and TTC so I really hope I can be one of these success stories

Quitelikeit · 17/11/2022 21:25

Bumping

LLB79 · 18/11/2022 00:42

My grandmother and her sister both accidentally fell pregnant at the same time, aged 45 and 42 respectively (at least I think it was accidental!) which worked out great because their youngest had a large age gap from their older siblings so they had each other! I am hopeful this means I have good eggs in my genes because I am trying to convince my husband to go for a third but I am 39 right now and just coming out of the fog of two small children - he is worried about money and sleep, personally I think we will cope with both lol. My worries are that my age means it is risky for me and baby. Also didn't enjoy second pregnancy, it's swings and roundabouts!

So lovely to hear all your success stories, I know this is an old thread but I would love to hear that OP (and all those TTC on here) had a happy ending.

We fell pregnant with our first after a year and a half of trying when I was 40 but had a loss due to abnormalities then fell pregnant 5 months later which ended in a miscarriage at the end of last year. About to start again at 42 and this will be the last attempt at a natural pregnancy for us because of what we have been through but feeling positive. Our initial problem conceiving seemed to be method and have had a lot more success after following a certain routine. We do the deed a couple of days before ov when ewcm appears then on the two peak days. I tend to peak overnight so do ov tests in the morning and at evening to be sure. Then I lie upside down and ‘finish off’ if it didn’t happen (sorry!) to help his wrigglers get where they need to be. We also had a few chemicals since following that method so it is my crappy old eggs that seem to be the issue now. I have a prescription for additional folic acid and take evening primrose oil for cm (makes a massive difference), use a tiny bit of pre seed if needed and use a cycle tracking app to plan. Good luck!

How are things going for you? When you say chemicals, you mean you took fertility medicines? I am wondering whether I should go onto those rather than wait at my age (43)

I just found this too, I am also in wheel spin and trying to find reasons to believe at my age 43 that pregnancy is possible. IVF doesn't seem right for me and especially financially.

I was 44.

Congratulations! Was that naturally? How was your pregnancy?

YouJane · 23/01/2024 16:21

It is definitely possible naturally, I think you have a greater chance if you have already had children but that doesn't mean it's impossible. I read this interesting article in The Atlantic https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/07/how-long-can-you-wait-to-have-a-baby/309374/ (you do need to make an account for free to read)
about the myth that women's fertility 'goes off a cliff' after 35, so annoying to hear people say that! I think it's in this article (forgot my log in) that it says there have been no scientific studies involving women who are actively TTC - it's just not something that has been looked at so the figures are totally outdated (by a century or so, I think!) and highly inaccurate. Furthermore, most of the stats on women TTC come from IVF clinics, so already people who have fertility issues to begin with. It's alright saying women over 35 have a lower percentage chance of conceiving than younger women but the 35-year-olds they are talking about are at an IVF clinic and are unable to conceive naturally, so that skews the results. Yet, for some reason, it's ok to keep trotting out the line that women are barren the second they turn 35; it's lies.

Personally, I would have had children younger if I could have but I didn't meet my husband till I was 30, so what can you do?

How Long Can You Wait to Have a Baby?

Deep anxiety about the ability to have children later in life plagues many women. But the decline in fertility over the course of a woman’s 30s has been oversold. Here’s what the statistics really tell us—and what they don’t.

TTC43 · 08/04/2026 20:56

I’m 43 and TTC with child No 2. I’m very regular with 28 day cycle but with checking my HCG and body temp, don’t know if I’ve ovulated. Here’s my recording.
