TTC No. 2 (not as easy). AF here but still feel pregnant.

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on a forum. My husband and I are currently TTC No. 2 (we have a gorgeous 25 month old). We were lucky enough to get pregnant immediately with our first but this time is taking a bit longer. I know it isn't as long as other people and I know how lucky we are, but I can't help but feel disappointed. I had got my hopes up this cycle as I had all the same symptoms as when I was pregnant with DS1,, but 14 DPO (right on cue) I got AF. It has been very heavy, but for some reason I am still experiencing all the symptoms of the last time I was pregnant - sore breasts (I don't normally get this); bad nausea (i had hyperemesis with my first); and pinching and pulling down below. I am probably mad, but I just wanted to reach out to see:

A) if anyone else was struggling to conceive no. 2 after having conceived easily the last time?
B) if anyone had AF type bleeding but then ended up being pregnant?

Hi OP, Just giving this thread a MNHQ nudge up the lists for you as from personal experience I know just how obsessed I was when TTC and how much I needed this kind of answer.

Twitchett22 · 17/02/2020 20:50

Hi OP!
Not sure I can offer much advice re: bleeding but I'm also TTC#2 and also got pregnant straight away with #1. This is my 3rd month TTC now and i know that's nothing but i think in my head I thought it would happen as quickly as #1 so I get you.
As for the bleeding, maybe just test and see? Could have been a chemical pregnancy possibly, but you'll probably never know Flowers

caty86 · 18/02/2020 08:33

Hi Twitchett22,
Thanks for the response. It's nice to chat to someone in the same boat with TTC No. 2. I know, I think I just got my hopes up that it would be the same this time. We haven't been trying long either and I know people are worse off but I do get worried about secondary infertility. I also think it is different the second time round because your hopes are up for your own LO to have a sibling.

Update on AF: it has now completely stopped after 3 days of bleeding. Not sure what has happened. I took another test and it was negative. Just hoping I ovulate as normal next month.

Fingers crossed you get your BFP this month. How old is your first DC?

How odd, yes hopefully you will have a straightforward cycle next month! Things only ever seem to be abnormal when you're TTC don't they.
DD is 2 and yes you're right, i feel more pressure now because i don't want a massive age gap, don't wanna be due at Xmas etc. All very ridiculous things, I'm definitely putting too much pressure on myself

Josie465 · 18/02/2020 19:55

I’m also in the same boat. Conceived in first month of trying for my daughter but now ttc number 2. 2nd month so far and I’m now 15 days late, no sign of af but getting negative pregnancy tests (technically in the 3rd month but don’t even know if/when I’ll be ovulating anymore 😞)

october18 · 18/02/2020 20:35

I conceived my son during our first month trying. Had a chemical in December and got pregnant in January. That was our 4th month ttc. I felt a bit like you, just sort of assumed it would happen when I wanted it to although I realise that I was extremely lucky the first time.

october18 · 18/02/2020 20:35

Sorry, posted before I finished. Really hope it happens soon for you.

october18 · 18/02/2020 20:37

By the way, are you taking any conception vitamins? I was on seven seas trying for a baby and they made me feel nauseous, very heavy periods etc. Switched to normal folic acid instead.

Mrslane2019 · 18/02/2020 20:43

i also fell first time with ds but been ttc#2 now for 10 cycle have tried most thing with no lucky but i’m same i have all the symptoms of pregnancy but just a BFN so your not alone :-(

caty86 · 18/02/2020 20:44

Twitchett22 I am the same was trying to plan everything around the age gap, a house move and work commitments. Now I feel ridiculous that I was even trying to plan around those things because it really is out of my hands.

Josie465 fingers crossed this is your month. With my first I got a very late BFP even had a few spells of bleeding, it was such an emotional roller-coaster. Have you been using the early response tests?

October18 funny enough I used seven seas with my first and they made me nauseous. I then had hyperemisis through that pregnancy and wondered had it been the seven seas so haven't been using them this time. I will maybe just get some folic acid then, thanks for the tip. Yes definitely was very lucky, just trying not to panic or get stressed about it now because that wont help the situation. Glad you have got you BFP now.

Hey Mrslane2019 nice to hear I am not alone. Feel like I drive myself mad symptom spotting. Its so disappointing when it takes longer than expected. I feel like second time round there is even more pressure because you are really wanting a sibling for your first LO. Fingers crossed for you this month.

Slightly different but similar: I have had three babies and 2 miscarriages, all of which were conceived if I looked sideways at my husband. This time I'm hoping for one more baby and it's been 4 months of nada. I'm feeling quite perplexed tbh. My three are all 2yrs apart exactly and I had decided that I wanted 3yr gap this time (for my sanity) but now the gap is getting bigger as time passes.

Willow146 · 19/02/2020 05:38

I'm the same. I conceived straight away first time trying, ended in a miscarriage but tried again the next cycle and also conceived right away and I have a 14 month old. Now onto cycle 4 trying for second and still nothing . I can't help but feel something is wrong 😣
Fingers crossed for you soon. I can't comment on the bleeding but my periods since having my son have been heavier, day 2 is the worst x

caty86 · 19/02/2020 08:36

Calimommy, totally feel the same about the gap. I would have liked to have had a baby sooner but we wanted to buy our own house first so waited and though 3 years would be a good gap anyway, but now that gap is growing.

Willow146, I am the same been worrying that something went wrong after my first's birth. That birth wasn't great, so worried something is wrong. My periods have also been really heavy since having my son, and same the second day is the worst. I definitely think I have just had a short AF this month. Typical as I am usually very regular.

On to the next cycle of TTC. Would be good to keep in touch and through the TWW!! Hopefully we all get our BFP soon!

Today I’m 16 days late and still getting pain low down, to one side as well as dizzy spells and sickness/nausea. Still negative pregnancy tests.
I went to the doctors to explain the situation today and she sent me for immediate blood tests (will get results tomorrow). She’s concerned about ectopic and if not that, then a possible ‘problem with the ovaries’ which will require further investigation. So a waiting game until tomorrow and then I should know one way or the other for definite.

caty86 · 19/02/2020 17:49

Josie465 glad the GP sent you for bloods straight away. Hopefully you will get some answers tomorrow and can move forward. Xo

@caty86 thank you. I’ll feel much better tomorrow either way I think 🙂
