Hcg from miscarriage or new pregnancy?

Hi ladies, I had a miscarriage a few weeks back. The hospital discharged me once my hcg decreased down to 6 on the last blood test. Today I’ve taken an frer and got a faint line. Is this likely to be a new pregnancy or leftover hcg. The result of 6 was about 12 days ago. Dtd 23rd Jan and 28Jan, no idea if/when I ovulated!

Hcg from miscarriage or new pregnancy?

Sorry to hear about your miscarriageThanks

Whilst I don't have experience about this I'm sure the normal HGC level in a non pregnant woman is 5. The sensitivity of a FRER test is 6.3. It is an obvious looking line albeit faint. I'm really not sure if your level would still be 6 12 days after the test. You could maybe try testing again later and see if it darkens?

I have my fingers crossed for you xx

Sorry about your misscarriage.

I had retained products which gave me a faint but positive line for 8 weeks with mine. I'm assuming if you were discharged that was checked for though?

I can see the line, I guess it's a new pregnancy. I hope all goes well for you!

Upsydaisyy · 03/02/2020 14:34

@Alicespring It took 4 weeks to reach level 6, the week before it was 30 so I did ask them about this but they said with a level so low and decreasing there wouldn’t be anything left inside. So I hope this is true! Sorry to hear about your miscarriage, it’s just awful isn’t it
@R2D2abc thank you! I hope so

Chances are it's a new pregnancy then ! Congrats if so 🙂

Sorry about your miscarriage.

I'd be inclined to say it may be a new pregnancy. A level at 6 nearly 2 weeks ago would surely have diminished by now. Really hoping this is a new and healthy pregnancy for you. Keep testing over next few days to see if line gets stronger x

Sorry about your miscarriage:( I had one in november and I have found FRERs to be VERY sensitive. I took one the morning I went to the EPU and had a line similar to yours, if not a tiny bit darker and my bete hcg level from the same day (tested about two hours after the pregnancy test) as 4. So it can pick up traces.

Although if theh discharged you when it was 6 it's unlikely to be leftover.

Fingers crossed for you!!!

@maria2bela @Anny27 thanks both, I’m going to test again on Saturday to give it a good few days, well I’ll try to wait anyway

Just an update as I couldn’t hold out till Saturday, I tested again today with a cheap one and bfn, then tested with an frer and the line was the same as 2 days ago, didn’t use fmu though. I will give it another few days and use another frer and see what result that gives

Be careful about getting too excited, after one miscarriage I had negatives within a few days but after another miscarriage I tested positive for 2months. When it finished, it was pretty much the only time I've ever been thrilled to see a BFN! I am hoping that's not the case for you though x
