Norethisterone to kickstart periods

Hi everyone,

I've recently been prescribed norethisterone to induce a period. I have PCOS and have gone 3 months without a period so the nurse prescribed me that to bring on a bleed as I was getting uncomfortable and constantly feeling rubbish and bloated. I've done a lot of googling and I know that most people use it to delay periods, but it can be used to induce one too. I've finished the 5 day course on Wednesday so just waiting for a bleed now.

Basically, I'm trying to conceive and the nurse who prescribed it said that it will essentially 'kick start' my periods and hopefully trick my body to ovulate afterward. Has anyone had any experience of this?? I'm a bit wary that it might make it harder to conceive and send my cycles even more out of whack than it already is!

I've searched lots but not found a lot to back this up. I'm obviously not hoping for a miracle but I'm just wondering what others periods have been like after taking it? I'm hoping it will help to regulate my cycles after my body has had a withdrawal bleed.

Thanks! ☺️

Yep I did this. I missed a period because of a cyst and took norethisterone to induce a period. Took it for 5 days and period came the day after stopping (and cysts were gone the following month). I fell pregnant that month!

@Robs20 ahhh thanks so much for replying! It's so good to hear that someone else has taken it for the same sort of reason, and came out with such a positive outcome! Fingers crossed I get the same outcome x

I also had this after the depo injection had completely stopped my periods. Good luck!
