So, I’m on cycle 4 of TTC baby #1. Told myself before starting the journey I was going to be easy going & not stress.. think that lasted up until my first TWW when I turned into a crazy person!!

I’m currently cycle day 10. Last month I tracked ovulation, didn’t drink in my TWW, had tests in the house waiting to go etc.

This month I am trying to remain totally chilled; I have no tests, no OPKs, I’m not even allowing myself to check my flo app for my predicted ovulation date! Just gonna DTD, enjoy my month with nights out and glasses of wine til my hearts content.

Is there any other crazy people out there trying to convince themselves to not be so crazy this month?? We can be cool, chilled, non-crazy people together ❤️

Xx

I'm 44 in April with a new partner, been together nearly a year, we arent crazily trying but we arent preventing. I've always conceived very easily before, last pregnancy in 2005. Havent been on birth control just condoms previously so AF is 28 days bang on each month. I'm hoping to get caught but worried about all kinds of things like miscarriages etc at my age but so I would say chilled but do want it to happen also. I had lots of symptoms of pregnancy but they seemed to have gone, my AF due on friday, did do a test today and it's a BFN so will hopefully next cycle :)

pretendingtobezen · 06/01/2020 11:01

This is me! I’ve been lurking on MN for a while. I was fascinated by the hundreds of posts about TWW, tests etc and whilst I sympathised I thought that would never be more (or not until perhaps a year or so). After one month of properly trying I turned into what you described culminating with sobbing this morning after a BFN. One thing I had in mind was to not buy any tests again until a missed period rather than counting down the hours until when an early detection might work. :(

MrsERH · 06/01/2020 11:41

Due AF tomorrow so when this inevitable happens I think this would be a good thread to be on for a few months!

Whyhaveidonethis · 06/01/2020 11:47

I am not deliberately trying to relax, however I've lost my thermometer so can't temp (plus I'm currently abroad), so I'm just relying on Opks, which say I'm ovulating today 3 days early. I have been ttc number 4 for 18 cycles already so this is 19, and I'm 41. Last pregnancy that was successful (I've had 3 CPs in the last year) was in 2009/10 and I've always fallen really easily before. Not this time. I'm going to try to relax anyway!!

paintfairy · 06/01/2020 12:17

@MrsERH I'm due AF tomorrow also. Stressful times!

I have lurked for ages. I too thought people were bonkers. But as soon as you are doing it, it's so hard to switch off to it all? Every little thing you read into. At least men literally can forget! I've felt strange this last week. I'm sure none of it means I'm pregnant but you can't help but secretly hope? I also told myself I wouldn't bother testing before AF was missed. But got a BFN this morning.

pretendingtobezen · 06/01/2020 13:04

@paintfairy sorry to hear that. I feel slightly better talking about it in here. I’m due AF on Thursday. Like @xxA08x I had tests ready, despite being surrounded by shops and having amazon prime. Going to really try to only do temps via natural cycles app and nothing else including no tests at home “just incase”.

I wasn’t sure if joining here will make it better or worse but trying to keep it all to myself (and my husband who is very relaxed) wasn’t helping either.

paintfairy · 06/01/2020 13:09

My husband gets irritated if I go on about it. So I thought coming on here might help me, no friends know we are trying.

Mp0304 · 06/01/2020 14:37

I am feeling exactly the same! I'm on cycle 2, first month I felt I drove myself insane, let alone more poor partner. This month I promised to myself I'd leave it all and let nature take it cause, now I'm panicking over ovulation, where my cervix is, my mucus, and opk's! I feel ridiculous and it's taken the enjoyment out of it for me. I will wait and see, currently in my TWW, if it's not this month and I'm changing things going forward and being chill.

This is crazy isn't it!

HGee12 · 06/01/2020 14:54

Can I join?
TTC #1 Cycle #4
I've tried the apps but they all give you different dates and non have been right so far so I'm ignoring them now!
I too promised myself I'd be chilled but the TWW turned me crazy the past few times (symptom spotting everything), hoping this one will be different as it just made grumpy!
Currently CD15 think OV today as I had really strong OV pains (no mistaking them, so sharp and I get them every month for a couple of hours), and that's the only thing I've tracked this cycle!
Ready for a chilled TWW now! 🤞🏼

pretendingtobezen · 06/01/2020 20:22

Hi @HGee12 - are you going to do anything differently this tww or just try a different mindset? Would love to hear any tips from people as I genuinely felt like I was going mad during my first. Being back at work and not at home over Xmas will help I hope.

HGee12 · 06/01/2020 20:59

@pretendingtobezen I'm just going to try and keep busy, it's when your not doing a lot that you start getting crazy! I found if I've got a busy day, there's less time to constantly google symptoms etc!
Last cycle I was 4 days late for af, I'd had spotting for 2 days and has sensitive boobs, kept thinking I was PG (but PG test negative) but when AF arrived, I remembered my AF was only late according to my app, it's never been regular so I don't have a late 😂 and my boobs are always sensitive before AF comes, as for the spotting it can apparently happen to some people before AF, so this time I'm going to try and not convince myself everything is a symptom of PG! A lot easier said than done 😂😂 but I'm going to try!

pretendingtobezen · 09/01/2020 13:44

After negative test on Monday (90% accuracy according to box/when I took it) I was still secretly hoping it was wrong but AF has arrived right on cue. Ho hum. Desperately trying to (at least pretend to) be relaxed and breezy about it...

Whyhaveidonethis · 09/01/2020 15:41

Aw that sucks @pretendingtobeZen hugs. I'm 2dpo and still feeling fairly chilled. Although suddenly regretting not temping!! 😂

xxA08x · 11/01/2020 01:14

@ylladyoll did AF arrive? Fingers crossed for next cycle for you! At least you know it’s happened before so can happen again :)

@pretendingtobezen I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I was buying eBay tests as soon as TWW started and then actually using them before a positive was possible even if I was pregnant - it’s like self torture?! Sorry for your bfn :(

@paintfairy so sorry for your bfn this month, hopefully the coming months will be our time. I am the same, no friends or family know we are officially trying. People have started asking “why are you not having a baby yet?” .. I don’t even know how to respond to people so I just laugh it off!

@Mp0304 @HGee12 @Whyhaveidonethis @MrsERH it’s so nice to have other people to be in it with.

So far this month I am surprising myself at how chilled out I am in terms of ttc! However - I know I haven’t ovulated yet so there is still time to turn bonkers lol! I was at the GP this week & she’s sending me for tests next week for thyroid issues as I’ve had a few symptoms that could suggest that, trying not to worry too much about it although I know that can impact conception.

I had loads of symptoms last month which I shared with my husband, I got a BFN at 11 DPO and my AF started that day too (earlier than expected) and he just looked so upset. We were both absolutely gutted but the look on his face killed me, I think that’s pushing me to stay away from the opk’s and flo app etc also!

Sorry if TMI but this attempted chill attitude has also made DTD more fun - not sure if I feel less pressure maybe?

I feel like Monica in that episode of friends when she leaves the message on Richards answering machine “I’m just, being breezy!” 😂

Yep it started with a vengeance thursday, I think getting pregnant isnt as easy when older. We are just seeing if it happens not using any contraception. I'm not doing any prediction kits etc but am doing clue (app) on phone. Good news is my periods are regular 28 days but I am overweight and will be trying to lose weight see if that helps xx

paintfairy · 12/01/2020 18:32

@xxA08x Ever since we got married literally everyone has said the same! Yet I've never said we were hoping to try. They either ask our thoughts on it or over xmas people were like "are you drinking", it did my head in. Got asked last week if I had any announcements to make.
I do find it insensitive. I never ask people such things. Because what if there's a problem you don't know about?

Ylladyoll · 12/01/2020 18:47

People dont expect me to have any more babies *sigh which happens when you are pushing menopause. Anyway the week of my 44th birthday in April we are going to spend that week away together, chilled, it happens that on clue it's my prime fertility week so hopefully all the stars align and a little miracle happens. That's what pregnancy is, a little miracle everytime xxx

Whyhaveidonethis · 12/01/2020 20:14

I'm 5dpo today. Haven't temped this month though so just going off opks. Feel pretty relaxed still although keep think about then I can test!!! I'm also scrutinising every symptom

pretendingtobezen · 25/01/2020 11:30

Sending best wishes to everyone - a have tried to stay off MN for a while.

Here we go again! TWW has began. So far feeling less anxious than last month but will have to see how this pans out as the clock to AF ticks down. No tests in the house and really going to try not to until any missed period. Wish me luck...
