Think I might have had a misdiagnosed chemical.

Okay bit of a long one. I was due my period on the 1st December 2019 and I am usually regulars. My breasts where extremely tender 1 week before I was due so I just knew having had the same symptoms with my 20 month old daughter that I was pregnant. Waited until the 3rd of December to take a test and I got a faint positive but also started having period like bleeding. Two days later I passed a small clot and went to a&e to be told it was a chemical pregnancy and my hcg levels where at 3 so just to treat it as a normal period. Fast forward to January 2nd 2020 and I have started my period. Don’t know what made me do it but I had a spare test lying around and decided to take it this morning on the 5th. I hadn’t done one since the hospital so think I just wanted not to see those two lines. Only thing is There is definitely 2 lines there. Faint line but still a line and I am completely confused. We only had sex once this month and that was on New Year’s Eve so 2/3 days before I started to bleed. It is definitely period like bleeding I am having, bright red and medium in flow. I will make an appointment with the doctors but just wondered if anyone had been through a similar situation? Thanks x

Hi @Amandabarrxx, we're just bumping this thread. Hopefully some Mumsnetters will be along soon with some advice and support.

I have had a pregnancy of unknown location (which was most likely an ectopic) and with that, I had a period and then got a positive almost straight after. That period was quite odd though and you say yours seems quite normal. You probably know this but with ectopic pregnancies, hormone levels don't rise properly - although to go from 3 which is definitely "not pregnant" to being pregnant seems a bit strange.

I think your best bet is to see the doctor ASAP and ask to be referred to an EPU so you can have blood tests taken.

Call your local early pregnancy unit, they should offer you a scan

kirinm · 06/01/2020 11:53

What sort of test was it? Could it possibly be a false positive?

Amandabarrxx · 06/01/2020 14:26

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have the doctors at 3.40pm on Friday so hopefully get some answers as to what is going on. I might phone the early pregnancy unit and see what they say also. I used a cheap Asda pregnancy test as that was what I used when I fell pregnant with my 20 month old daughter. I’ll maybe go buy a first response and see what I get from that. Just feel like I’m going a bit mad x

If another test is positive, I would push to be seen sooner than Friday if I were you.

Amandabarrxx · 06/01/2020 16:33

If I test in the morning and it comes back positive then I will definitely push to get seen sooner. Thank you x

I had a CP and tested positive for about 3 days after AF started. They don't really diagnose CPs (I've had 3) they just take your word for it.
