Very heavy periods when TTC- any advice?

Hello, this is my first time on Mumsnet!

My husband and I have been TTC for two months now. Prior to this my periods were normal; regular with a medium flow and some medium cramps on the day they started.

The last two cycles though, since we've been trying, they've been really heavy and painful, with lots of clots (sorry if TMI). The first month I had what I thought were pregnancy symptoms (but may have imagined them). My periods are still regular, so I'm really confused about why this is happening. My skin's also become really acne-prone, which is unusual.

Anyone else had anything similar to this?

I don't think it's endo because my periods have been so regular and normally not painful. However, I do suffer from pain during sex and lower back ache.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @liverbird209,

We're just bumping this thread for you to get it back into Active Conversations. Hopefully some Mumsnetters will be along shortly with some advice and support.

Were you previously on hormonal birth control? Might just be your body adjusting to hormonal changes if so.

I also have experienced this!
I have regular predictable periods, never late, always on time.
I have been I stopping taking the pill about a year ago now and have been ttc properly for about 9 months. With the exception of last month my periods have been exactly how you have described, I mean like an extreme amount of clots, so heavy I couldn't leave the house and a day or two longer than usual!

Following as I have the same. I’ve had a c section though and worried they are linked.

@liverbird209 ive also noticed that my periods got heavier since ttc. Have no idea why. I also had more spots on my face at the beginning but now gone back to normal. Are you taking any supplements?

liverbird209 · 06/01/2020 21:41

So glad I'm not the only one who's experiencing this!

Haven't been on birth control for ages now, so don't think that's it. It's very disconcerting, isn't it?

I don't know much about how this all works, but was wondering if this could happen if the eggs are being fertilised but not implanting..

@Needallthesleep I had a c section 13 years ago that left me with endometriosis, I think this can happen.

My periods were ridiculously heavy. I went to see the GP and when I lay on the couch for an examination, the blood pooled on the bed and dripped to the floor!! The GP was horrified that I'd been suffering this and put me on norehisterone which reset my cycles and helped massively.

Gosh that sounds awful Whyhaveidonethis. So sorry you had to go through that.

I experienced this in our first month of TTC but not in the 12 months since. I was just looking back at my symptom notes from the beginning as we are going through testing now and looking as to what it might have meant. Has anyone worked it out?

niknaks37 · 31/08/2022 19:49

This happened to me on my last period!
3rd cycle ttc first time.
My periods are regular normal medium/light flow until my last one, I had a situation in work were I had to run to the toilet. Luckily nobody was none the wiser but it was awful, almost like blood had gushed out. It was fine after I changed my sanitary, just weird that one moment.
I am wondering if this is because of the vitamins?

taracani · 31/08/2022 22:12

Sounds very familiar! I hope it’s a one off for you. I haven’t seen anyone have a clear idea across forums but does seem to be a thing
