Positive pregnancy test straight after period ?!

Dear ladies, I am confused...
I had a positive pink faint (clear) line on FRER test between 7-10 DPO. 11 DPO my period arrived with extra strong back aches etc. Period was slightly different, lighter and darker in colour than normal. Out of total curiosity I tested today ( 15DPO) and got a positive again... Probably slightly fainter line compared to before period ( but it's not FMU this time). Not sure what to think. If my bleeding was implantation- the line should be darker than the tests done before bleeding... and why do I still test positive even after my 2,5 day period.
1- photo of one test post "period" (not FMU)
2- photo of positives on 7-11 DPO before period (FMU)

Is it possible it could have been a chemical pregnancy? Or perhaps it was implantation and if you test again in a couple of days you'll have a stronger positive?

Hope you get answers soon Flowers

Hi lovely, usually if the test is getting lighter it means it's a chemical pregnancy. Maybe test again in a few days time but make sure you use the same test. This is why it is best not to test until a missed period as chemical pregnancies are very very common.

Thanks ladies... I am just freaking out as I don't think I have ever had a negative FRER test. Starting to think if it's picking up something more serious. If you google enough- even cancers can produce lower HCG levels!

It could still be a viable pregnancy- you are still very early on and each test will have inherent differences between them. How hydrated you are etc can influence it too.
Best advice I can offer is to try and wait a few more days and If you are still only getting faint positives maybe book into the gp? Then they could do a blood test to see what level you are actually getting of hcg.

I had a normal period and a late positive pregnancy test on my first pregnancy, it turned out to be ectopic but the gp said it is normal for some people to bleed heavily at implantation and it can happen on and off for weeks. Some women even have full periods the whole pregnancy!

I often get lines on FRER even though I’m not pregnant which is why I don’t use them. I’ve had blood tests at the doctors to confirm if I’m pregnant or not at they came back negative. I’ve had positive tests when I’ve been on the coil and definitely not pregnant. These tests pick up tiny levels of HCG and I think some women can naturally have a tiny bit in their system. Basically if a blood test picks up less than 5 it’s negative so if your natural level is say 4 it may still show up on the FRER. That’s what I’ve put it down to anyway. Might be best to check with a dr if you’re worried though. I’ve got an appointment in a few weeks with mine because it has been playing on my mind a bit and wondered if it could be the reason I’ve not got pregnant yet.

@sunnyflover how are you getting on? I'm going through similar at the moment - got a faint bfp but also just had what I thought was AF!

SunnyFlover · 30/01/2020 07:08

@whambam89, my case might be slightly different to yours.... So it seems that I trigger FRER ( detection level at 6,5HCG) to test positive every day of the month.... My reason may be one of the below- going to Doctor on Tuesday, will see what she says. I just hope it's not too abnormal as all other tests never ever show positive ( I tried a lot of them), it's only FRER extremely sensitive one ( most sensitive on the market)

I only found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks because my implantation bleed came the same time as my period should have been and was exactly the same as a normal period. I wouldn't rule it out yet. If I'd have tested then it would have been positive. Just a suggestion rather than waiting for tests etc, why not book a private scan to get a definite there and then answer? Just thinking because it's what I did when clear blue came up at 3+ weeks and I was confused so wanted an immediate answer without waiting for test results at docs Grin

whambam89 · 03/02/2020 14:05

@eandz13 I've just tested a week after "AF" (and what I thought might have been a vvv faint line on Thursday) and got this.. I feel like I don't want to get my hopes up though because my bleed was exactly like a normal period and I'm still sometimes getting spotting when I wipe a week later

@whambam89 I don't want to get your hopes up if you're worried, but it does look promising. And it's definitely not impossible because the exact same happened to me, I just didn't test after the bleed because I thought mine really was period. Fingers crossed everything turns out well for you Smile

Selly11 · 10/03/2021 00:14

@whambam89 hi I'm having the same issues as you were and I'm just wondering what happened. Thanks

Kinsters · 10/03/2021 06:12

I'm not the OP but I had this happen to me. I got my period and then on cycle day 9 I started doing opks again to see when I'd ovulate and immediately got a strong positive OPK, did a pregnancy test as ovulating on day 9 would be very early for me and it was positive.

I kept having bleeding and the pregnancy didn't progress, it was a missed miscarriage with a baby that stopped growing around six weeks. If you've got bleeding and a positive pregnancy test you should see your doctor or epu.

whambam89 · 10/03/2021 10:53

@Selly11 unfortunately it ended in an ectopic for me... Fingers crossed for a healthy pregnancy for you xx
