Hey so Sunday night (8th December) I done an ovulation test and came back very positive I’ve never had a line so dark before!
Me and my partner had sex straight after, and then an hour after that I was in excruciating pain I had severe lower right abdmoal pain. I rushed off to hospital thinking it was my appendix however I spent two night and had lots of tests, they discovered I had an infection somewhere but I think that was the chronic BV I suffer with.
So this morning I had my internal scan and they confirmed there was two follocals on my right ovary which was also a little inflamed.
Id never heard of a follicle before and didn’t really knwow what to ask for except if that was because of ovulations and she said yes.
Anyway the doctor come back and said your mid cycle and one of your follicles has ruptured (which happens every month) which you don’t usually feel but this time I have so I was discharged and come home and got googleing as you do and I see that most people have a lot more than 2?
I take it I had 3 with the one already ruptured but it says a normal amount is around 10? Now I’m panicking thinking I’m not making enough eggs, the drs didn’t say anything though and I don’t really think I can just ring the hospital asking 101 questions I now have lol.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I was thinking maybe the rest had already ruptured but then I read that only one does? So confused

Oh and there was no follicles on the left ovary either?
Sorry for the essay I just wanted some reassurance that this month would still count for TTC 😩

Ok I'll try and answer your post I sequence

  • your pains sounds like ovulation pain - it's very normal to get these
  • it's normal to have 2 follicles in an ovulation for some women but that's how you get twins 😂
  • you usually only have one follicle "rupture" per month - it's unfortunate the doctor used that word as it makes sound worse than it is. It just means the follicle released the egg as a normal part of ovulation
  • yes people usually have more follicles but at this point in your cycle it's normal for them to be small - what you are reading about is the Antral follicle count it's not the same as ovulation

You usually have around 10 small follicles visible on your ovaries - as your cycle progresses 1 will get bigger than the other and become a lead follicle and the others will stay very small waiting to be called upon another month

The number of follicles changes every month - just because none were seen on your left this month doesn't mean none will be there next month
