TTC post miscarriage- any tips/success stories?

Hi all,
I recently had a miscarriage a few weeks ago after discovering at a scan that baby’s heart had stopped at just over 8 weeks.
I’ve stopped bleeding and am now testing negative on pregnancy tests and me and DP have decided to start trying again.

Our angel was conceived on the first cycle of trying but I think that was just pure luck, I am desperate to be pregnant again due to having no other children but just worried that it’s going to take a while this time around, so want to try and boost our chances as much as possible!
Has anybody got any TTC tips and/or success stories of pregnancy after miscarriage?

(I’m 21 years old and have slightly irregular cycles, normally 27-32ish days, so I know roughly when I ovulate but if anyone can recommend good ovulation detecting kits it would be good to pinpoint when I do actually ovulate Smile)

Thank you so much in advance!

Hey,

No advice but I legit could've written your post!

I had a MC in October at 6 weeks. Bleeding has stopped and negative tests and me and DP desperate to try again also!

Our little one was also conceived on the first cycle and we also have no other little ones yet. The one we lost would have been our first.

I'm 22 and also have irregular cycles. Mine are anywhere from 38 to 45 days though so I feel like it could take ages!

Sorry I have no advice but wanted to join you and follow this for others advice! I'm actually due af today but haven't tested yet as I'm so scared to see a negative. Might test tomorrow.

HelpMeDrRanj · 04/12/2019 19:53

Yes! I lost our first baby at 11 weeks 5 days, it was a missed miscarriage as baby's heart had stopped at 9 weeks but all seemed fine till 11+5. We waited a month till all had calmed down and tried again, got pregnant a few months later! We now have a wonderful 4 year old and a 2 year old, no further miscarriages :)

I remember being terrified that something was wrong with me because I miscarried on our first pregnancy but it's just bad luck sometimes. It does not mean there's anything wrong with you, miscarriages are just much more common than we expect.

It may be worth waiting a month or so to give your body a rest but I totally understand wanting to try again straight away! Hope you're doing okay and best of luck getting pregnant again x

@stickytoffeepud123 hi lovely, so sorry to hear of your miscarriage Flowers I lost my little bub at 7 and a half weeks, found out at 10 weeks and went through medical management a week later. We're trying this cycle (I haven't had a period yet since the MMC) and would also love some tips.

Also, hey @Jurassiclover ! :) We seem to be on all the same boards! Sending lots of love your way!

Jurassiclover · 04/12/2019 20:30

@danielasummer hey! Thank you, sending lots of love your way too!

ceebee21 · 04/12/2019 20:43

Hi all,
I have no advice either, but Did suffer a MMC and had an ERPC on 1st October. I’ve just finished my second AF since...I also fell the first month of trying and am desperate to be pregnant again.

TTC #1

PickleBun · 04/12/2019 21:19

Yes success story here! Sorry to hear of everyone's Mc, they are honestly shit.
I have the worlds most irregular cycles and fell pregnant in July 2017 after a year of trying. I had a mmc in sept 2017. I was 11wk 6days but baby only measured just over 6 weeks.
Managed to conceive again in December 2017 and now my beautiful little pickle is 14 months!
Keep going ladies, crossed fingers and baby dust for all of you!

neverornow · 04/12/2019 21:54

Sorry
Success story here...I now have 2 DC's but like you, I also had a MC at 8 weeks, conceived on my very first month of TTC.

I tried to stay positive and just went with what my doctor told me at the time; "it just means the odds are more in your favor for next time". And he was right

As for tips....Here's exactly what I did when we started TTC again:

Clear blue ovulation kits (they were bang on for me)
Preseed lubricant (you'll get it on Amazon, supposed to help sperm on its way)
Pre conception supplements - you'll get in any pharmacy
Tracking cervical mucus for signs of ovulation - lots of pics and the likes online
Acupuncture - I started at first to help regulate my cycle again as I didn't get my period for about 8 weeks after. I then kept it up to help with getting pregnant

The very best of luck!!!

Bee1710 · 05/12/2019 10:12

So sorry to hear what some of youve gone through. I found out on my 12 week scan on Monday that my baby had stopped growing in 6 weeks. Shattered! Have been called in Monday to check.
This has left me worried for future why did my egg didn't fertilize properly. But so glad to hear success stories. Would love to hear more💗

danielasummer · 05/12/2019 11:57

So sorry to hear that you have all been through such a horrendous experience :( it does help me to know that I'm not alone though, as it can be a very lonely club to be in when people 'in real life' don't understand Flowers

@neverornow thank you for the tips. Did you track anything else as well? Temperatures or cervix position?

neverornow · 05/12/2019 14:00

@danielasummer I was useless at remembering to take my temperature for the most part so didn't rely on that or the cervix checks.

I think the most useful thing I tried were the clear blue ovulation kits. They were bang on for me and always tied in with when I had fertile cervical mucus.

Best of luck! I hope 2020 brings you a little bundle of joy. Stay positive Thanks

neverornow · 05/12/2019 14:16

@Bee1710 sorry for your loss. 12 weeks is quite late to find out. You poor thing

It's so, so common. There are 7 women in my team at work and 4 of us have had miscarriages. One actually had 2 miscarriages. We now have 9 DC's between us.

Stay positive x

stickytoffeepud123 · 05/12/2019 14:22

Thank you so much everyone for your replies! And so sorry for all of your losses :(

@Jurassiclover wow our stories are very similar! It’s awful isn’t it, especially when everyone else around you seems to be posting pregnancy announcements and having babies! I naively thought that age was on my side and that I would have my baby like everyone else I know, but I guess some of us have got to be the unlucky ones!

@HelpMeDrRanj @PickleBun @neverornow thank you so much for your success stories, it really does help to not feel like it’ll never happen for us!

@danielasummer I totally get what you mean about nobody getting it in real life! Nobody who I know/have spoke to have had a miscarriage, they are all lucky enough to have had multiple children with no issues!

@Bee1710 so sorry to hear about your scan :( it’s the most awful feeling in the world when they tell you it’s bad news

@ceebee21 If you don’t mind me asking when was your first period afterwards? I was ‘lucky’ enough to miscarry naturally but any rough ideas on when people got their first period are helpful!

stickytoffeepud123 · 05/12/2019 14:26

Also forgot to say thanks for all the TTC tips! Going to start off with ovulation tests so I can get a rough idea of when I ovulate, ordered a pack of 50 cheapies (with relatively good reviews) off amazon but if I finish those and still no luck then deffo getting the clear blue digital!

Heard lots of good things about preseed too! I’ve told myself I’m going to try without for a few cycles and try not to stress about it but if it takes a while then deffo going to try the preseed also!

Taking some folic acid with vitamin D tablets already, any suggestions on anything DP can do/take?

TunnocksTcake · 05/12/2019 14:27

@Bee1710 the exact same thing happened to me in July, thought I was 12 weeks turned out baby stopped growing at 6. I hope you are ok - I ended up having an erpc a couple of days after the scan and I'm glad I did, I couldn't face waiting for it to pass naturally. It was all over very quickly and my tests went negative within 10 days.
Please don't think there is anything wrong with you, as others have said MC are just more common than you think. I like to think my body wanted the pg to work so much that it didn't want to let go which can only be a good sign, and it shows you are able to conceive it was just the wrong egg and sperm.
I unfortunately don't have any advice, I'm still trying and have found my cycles have become more regular the last couple of months when I have stressed less so hoping that will help. It will happen when it happens and you will be all the more grateful when it does.
Look after yourselves ladies Flowers

Bee1710 · 05/12/2019 16:17

@tunnocksTcake thank you so much! I know I never knew they were this common before it happened. Also did you call epu to ask for d&c and did they gave you a date quickly?
I've been asked to come for a follow up scan on Monday but ive been having red discharge so i know its over but ive to wait until Monday.

Bee1710 · 05/12/2019 16:18

@tunnocksTcake also very sorry to hear about your loss and glad to know you're doing well.. Wish you a healthy pregnancy soon 💗

TunnocksTcake · 05/12/2019 16:57

@Bee1710 I had the opportunity to book it in for the following day right after my scan so I did that thinking I can cancel if I changed my mind. But yes I think if I hadn't done that I could have rung and booked it in at a later date. Our hospital had availability every day.
I hope you can get in quick if that's what you decide. I had no signs of bleeding so had no idea how long it would have taken to pass naturally xxx

Chanel05 · 05/12/2019 18:21

@stickytoffeepud123 sorry to hear of your loss. I understand the desperation you feel. I fell pregnant in February after 8 months of ttc but then I had a mmc and had to have an erpc in May. I've been ttc since May again with no luck. Try the ovulation sticks definitely but my cycle was all over the place, different lengths and all sorts, 32-43 days, and it's only the cycle that I'm just finishing now where I've got back to my pre-miscarriage pattern.

perkele · 05/12/2019 20:24

Had DS1 after fertility treatment. Decided we were stopping at one because if we had to go through it again we probably wouldn't still be together when the baby arrived. Got pregnant. Had a really early miscarriage. It was awful but if it hadn't happened we wouldn't have our wonderful DS2 as he was conceived straight after. I was told that you are often super fertile after a miscarriage. I am grateful for the way things turned out. DS1 is 15 now and DS2 is 13. I wish you the very best.

stickytoffeepud123 · 06/12/2019 13:49

@Chanel05 thank you and so sorry to hear of your miscarriage :( yeah I’m going to try the ovulation sticks I think, do you just do them once a day or something? Not sure how my cycle will be as it was never super regular anyway but I guess time will tell!

@perkele thank you for your success story, I’ve also heard about being super fertile after a miscarriage and I hope that is the way for me but just feel so hopeless at the moment :(

danielasummer · 06/12/2019 15:42

@neverornow it was hard in the beginning for me but I've been temping for a few years now so I'm used to it. It can be a chore at the weekend though if I have more/less sleep and that alarm goes off to temp! I will try the cheapy ovulation sticks first and see how I get on, then move onto CB if no joy with them. Thank you for your advice x

@stickytoffeepud123 luckily for those people they have never experienced loss like a miscarriage.. just think though, we are much stronger women for it and I genuinely feel now that I can get through anything. I thought I'd die if I were to miscarry (was very anxious during my pregnancy and desperate for that healthy baby) but honestly I just got through it one day at a time and it does make you realise how strong you are.

For my TTC journey, like you I've also got the internet cheapy ovulation sticks so will track that this cycle, along with trying SMEP. Which ovu stick brand did you go for? x

neverornow · 06/12/2019 16:35

@stickytoffeepud123 there are men's pre conceive supplements out there also. My DH used the pregnacare ones. He could try eating plenty of spinach (good for the swimmers apparently) and then the obvious; quit smoking if he's a smoker, cut back on booze etc.

stickytoffeepud123 · 08/12/2019 11:17

Hi all I’m in need of some advice

After the MC the EPU asked me to do a test just to check it was negative and it was (this was just over a week ago)

Me and DP decided once we had a negative test we were going to start trying again

We did it a couple of times over last weekend

I had a sharp pain in where my left ovary would be on Friday, (have been doing ovulation tests and not ovulating though) and have felt super rough all weekend

I thought I’m just going to do a test for the sake of it even though it’s going to be negative, so I just did one and it’s faintly positive

Is this a new pregnancy or is it possible that it’s still hormones from my MC that are showing up on this test even though last weeks was negative? (Both tests were FMU)

I wish I had just waited for my period before TTC now because I am so confused Sad

TTC post miscarriage- any tips/success stories?
