Advice to see a doctor or not?

Hi everyone, I know no one here can give me clinical advice but maybe I'm just looking for some opinions or stories.

I was 2 weeks late for AF due around 23/10 but actually came 6/11 and lasted 7 days. Now usually this wouldn't concern me because I have had cycle lengths anywhere from 20 days to 83 days. However, I never have any symptoms but this time I had flu like symptoms for those two weeks, sore nipples and breasts, no discharge, weird tastes, smelling everything strongly and intense hunger. Someone at work during that time asked me if I could be pregnant so I panicked after realising AF was late and bought freedom test strips from Tesco. I took these over a day and three were faint positives/ evap and one was strong two lines seemingly positive. I would have not questioned it being a BFP if it weren't for the others being faint. I continued to buy more tests (all different brands all 25MLU) and all coming back faint positive/evap until what I thought was AF, arrived. It was much different to usual, longer and lighter with cramping. I assumed maybe chemical pregnancy and stopped testing.

However, over the last couple of days I am nauseous and lower abdomen is bloated and sharp pain, extreme hunger is back and I can't control my emotions. I have tested again today with some cheap strips again and all faint positive/evap.

Should I go to the doctor or wait to see if AF turns up ? The problem is that I was not planning on being pregnant , I already have a 3 year old and my partner wants no more children. TIA.

I would probably go- see what they say and maybe have bloods, and that way you can discuss options. Just be aware that if you are considering not proceeding that it might be difficult for some of the other posters to offer advice. X

You should definitely go see someone if you had light positive tests even after the bleeding, just incase this could be an ectopic pregnancy.

I had a very dangerous ruptured ectopic pregnancy, so I'd talk to a doctor just to be sure. Especially if you're still getting positive tests and having pregnancy symptoms.

Hi Sammy and beibike, thanks. I think I might make an appointment this morning and hopefully they don't think I'm raving mad. Also, thank you Sammy for your advice on the latter, I'll be aware not to discuss that topic here , so sorry if I posted on the wrong board x

Update: went to doctors this morning, first she told me to go to A&E because of the pain but after I repeated a number of times that I have only had a strong positive once and that was before a bleed she agreed to send me for a blood test which I had this morning and results on Wednesday. So we shall see what is causing all these weird symptoms...

Good luck. If you to start getting bad pain please do go to a&e just incase it is ectopic x

Blood results in, came back "normal"? I assume that means not pregnant , but just this morning I did another test which was a strong positive. MY MIND IS BLOWN.. What else could cause the positives? I've used different tests with different brands and all of them, every single one has had at least a faint line appear within a minute. Guess I'll wait to see if AF turns up ....

It depends what they tested for in your bloods. I would go back to the gp and ask for advice. How far along would you be If it is positive?

jc96 · 20/11/2019 21:12

Hi again Sammy, I'm going to follownip in the morning only because of this niggling pain also. It's not severe just bothersome , maybe just a cyst. If I go by my last AF before the bleeding this month, I would be 7 weeks 5 days (27/09 started last AF)

That should say book a follow up *

@jc96 I would go back to emergency gynaecologist ASAP, don't risk it.

beibikeiks · 20/11/2019 21:43

@jc96

That is very odd!
I'd check with the doctor what they were measuring with the blood test. "Normal" isn't very helpful for you 😂

If they were measuring hcg and you had none in your system but you're still getting positive tests, that's really strange 🤔

But as I said before, ectopic is no joke. So if you have positive tests and one sided "ovarian pain" it needs to be checked and ruled out ASAP. My tube burst when I was about 6w5d and it almost ended very very badly.

Sammyclaire22 · 20/11/2019 22:17

I agree with the other poster. I also had an ectopic and fortunately I work in a hospital. I was in pain (central not one sided which is unusual) but not enough that i would have left home for. I thought it was food poisening or a mc. If i hadnt of got checked out (pretty quick perks of being staff) i wouldnt be here now as i had quite advanced internal bleeding but no other signs. Abnormal hcg levels and even negative tests are all possible with ectopic too. I also had a normal period with that pregnancy, presumably because the hormone levels were so low my body carried on with my cycle.

Is it possible it could be a mmc? I'm afraid I don't know much about them to offer advice on signs though.

Any change in the pain or any other symptoms then it's a&e or 999!

Robs20 · 20/11/2019 22:22

What a strange response from your dr!! Surely they tested your hcg and can tell you if you’re pregnant or not. Over the past few months I’ve had 3 cysts and am now pregnant and have had niggly ovary pain throughout (nothing major but enough to feel it). Hope you get some answers tomorrow but as pp said, any severe pain go to a&e. Could be ectopic or twisted ovary.

jc96 · 20/11/2019 22:32

Thank you for all your replies. It's driving me mad no knowing for sure. I will certainly go in the morning to follow up , It was only the reception team I spoke to for my results. Thank you again

Back from the doctors, they advised that HCG was 1 therefore not pregnant and she did a urine test there which she waited about 30 seconds and said I must have been imagining a line and that if a second line was to appear it has to be as dark as the control line!! Still in pain but she said might be trapped wind . I must be insane 🤣
