Sorry if this is the wrong place - which one am I more likely to conceive from?

So I slept with an ex boyfriend (stupid I know, a year after we split) back on the 16th August and then my best friend on 21st August. Ex was unprotected (stupid stupid) and best friend was with a condom. However I am 14 weeks pregnant. According to my app (at the time) I was due to ovulate on 23rd August, putting my ex 7 days prior, I was told by a doctor and two midwives that it is more likely my friends - one midwife even said its practically impossible to be my exs regardless of the condom!

But at my scan last week I was brought forward two days, putting my ex at 5 days and my friend at the day I ovulated.

I had previously been trying for a baby with my ex but we decided to stop and a couple of months later split up. I really hate to be TMI but he has to , er, help himself and then quickly go back in before he finishes. He did that this time.

Basically what I'm asking is which time am I more likely to be pregnant from? From what I read there is only a 5% chance that my ex's sperm lived that long and considering he never got me pregnant the 8 months we were trying when we were together I have my doubts. I know it can take up to a year (or more) but I just think after sleeping with my friend that its pretty likely his

Ps. Both men are aware. Friend is more currently involved. All 3 of us think it's my friends

With both instances of sexual being so close, it’s impossible to say. You’ll need a dna test

MyGoodTimes · 14/11/2019 17:27

DNA when baby arrives. It is the best way of finding out.

RoseWhite94 · 14/11/2019 17:29

But surely its more likely from the day of ovulation?

Surely it’s more likely to have been the unprotected sex than when you used a condom?

Impossible to tell with only 5 days in between. Those apps aren’t always accurate.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 14/11/2019 17:31

Day of ovulation is an estimate even with app. I'd say likelihood is the one you didn't use protection with but only cert is a DNA test

CAG12 · 14/11/2019 17:34

Put it like this -

Ex - 5% chance.

Friend - 2% chance. Condoms have a 98% success rate.

Both really low chances, but its clearly happened. Id wait and do a DNA test.

I’d suspect your ex as well. My child was conceived 7 days prior to ovulation (I was using OPK’s) so it is perfectly possible.

The chances of conceiving when a condom was correctly worn would be smaller.

Surely apps are just indicative for ovulation, and have a few days’ leeway; as they are based on general trends rather than your specific cycle? I’m surprised 3 medical professionals didn’t tell you that.

Sorry Op, it sounds like you desperately want it to be your best friend, but I think it’s more likely that the unprotected sex made you pregnant, and you need a DNA test to make sure.

MrsAgassi · 14/11/2019 18:08

Good point about the apps being indicative.

I ovulate on day 18 of a 28/29 day cycle so they were always out for me, I have a short luteal phase.

RyvitaBrevis · 14/11/2019 18:41

You're more likely to get pregnant from sex 1-2 days before ovulation than the actual day of, if I recall correctly.

Do you know what the date was of the first day of your period - proper flow, not spotting?

HavelockVetinari · 14/11/2019 18:44

Most likely your ex's but could be friend's I guess. DNA test is the only way I'm afraid. You can do it with a simple non-invasive blood test nowadays.

Sorry for delayed reply! It was the 31st July, I have quite a long cycle, 37 days! Yes that's what I read too which is why I think it's my friends.

I agree with @CAG12

There's only a 2% chance it's your friends. Think about it, if he wore a condom, then no sperm entered you... you need sperm to conceive a baby!

I would place my bets on it being the man who's sperm actually entered you- your ex.

And just because an app estimates your day of ovulation, doesn't make it fact! Sometimes we ovulate at weird times in the month!! I would assume you ovulated earlier than what the app says.

Best of luck with everything, and congratulations Thanks
