Can I ovulate 10 days before my period?

I have been trying to conceive since September after suffering ectopic pregnancy
My period is due in 9 days time so how on earth is my boots ovulation test positive with a very dark line. I've been having sex during my fertile period and now I'm very upset I've been having sex at all the wrong times as I've read it's possible for some women to ovulate late in the month. I have a 30 day cycle so I don't understand why I have an extra dark line on my ovulation test. Should I buy a digital ovulation test? I'm 40 and just stupidly down at the moment. Feel like all the trying has been for nothing

Hi.

Yes totally possible to ovulate later than expected. Sometimes the body gears up for ovulation and you get the LH surge on the opk but it doesn’t release the little eggy so your body tries again.

Sorry to hear about your loss, the ectopic could also shift your cycles and put them out of whack.

I had a near positive opk before AF but some people also get them when they are pg.

I would get DTD if you have a positive OPK just in case.

Good luck x

I was using my Flo app to track ovulation and every month it said I should be ovulating between day 11-14. Got disappointed every month to not get the second line, and this month I thought I’d just continue the tests for a few more days...turns out I ovulate on day 18 of my cycle!! So yes entirely possible you ovulate late, try testing later next month.

Ovulation occurs between 10 and 16 days before your period in the average woman. Mine was always 10 days before.

For the average woman, sex every 2 to 3 days throughout her cycle should be sufficient to conceive. Concentrating all your efforts in a specific window does risk that you are missing your actual fertile period.

Can you get a clear blue fertility moniter? Its pricey at about £100 but it takes all the guess work away.

Its a little handheld computer that will tell you high fertility, and gives you your peak fertility (usually 2 days).

I conceived using mine and id totally use it again.

According to my fertility specialist you will always get your period 14 days after ovulation. It is possible to ovulate at any point in your cycle, it just means your cycle will be longer or shorter depending.

This is different for everyone I’m afraid and not an exact science! I have a cycle between 28-32 days and my ovulation is around day 18. Not too far off 14 days but not exactly the same each month.
