Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Can anyone make sense of this please.

Hi all

I've been trying to get pregnant for the past 5/6 months but no luck. I have an 18mo who I conceived without any issues....and I am incredibly, incredibly grateful for. My periods are very regular and occur on the date expected. My husband and I are 34 and 33 respectively with no health issues.
I had been using an app to work out my ovulation...

A lovely member on here (can't remember the name - sorry!) suggested I look into the sperm meets egg method and try an OPK kit to work out my exact date of ovulation, something which I hadn't done previously.

I've attached my test results and would really appreciate your input as I'm struggling to work out date of ovulation.

Thank you

Can anyone make sense of this please.

What’s your cycle length? Do you know when you usually ovulate (due to other signs? Mittleschmerz/tracking mucus?).

I don’t usually catch my peak day (when the test line as as dark or darker than control) unless I OPK twice a day (10am - don’t check with FMU - and again at 8pm).

Livingmagicallyagain · 01/11/2019 08:32

The OPKs must have just arrived too late this month.

Download the Premom app, you upload photos of your OPK twice a day and it measures the dye so you can easily see which is positive.

I know it’s hard but even a year or two of trying can be normal in healthy couples. Try getting your TSH tested to ensure it’s under 2.5 (pregnancy can often put your thyroid out of whack).

Good luck Flowers

Don't use premom as it doesn't reply work. I know many people, myself included who have had blazing positives and it says they are low. I'd suggest using glow instead.
Also you need to track for a few months before you will see a clear pattern

MummyJasmin · 01/11/2019 08:44

@Livingmagicallyagain - 28 days.
I do get the 'ovulation' mucus however I haven't been tracking it as such.
Is testing twice a day required - sounds so faffy when you work f/time :(
What is FMU?

FMU is first morning urine.

It’s generally recommended to test twice a day, I take the OPK into work. It’s fine!

Alternatively temping will show you much more reliably when you ovulate.

Either way, it’ll take a few months to spot your pattern.

Interesting about Premom! It’s worked very reliably for me so far. I’ll check Glow!

SunnyFlover · 01/11/2019 08:50

I might be totally wrong, but looks like my friend's case... all test seem to be positive- sometimes it indicates a pregnancy. She though she didn't get pregnant previous month, had a light period, then started testing for the ovulation. All test every day started coming up positive which confused the hell out of her. Turns out she was pregnant from the previous month. Worth to try ant test yourself if you are not pregnant.

These little test worked very accurately for me, 4 positives in a row seems too long

Sunflower2019 · 01/11/2019 08:50

I’d say you ovulated on the 27-28th? Similar dates to me as I ovulated then too! My cycle is a little shorter around 27 day’s, my period is 5 days. So you are around 4dpo? Does that seem about right?
Everyone is different but based on an average cycle etc?!

Xx

Sunflower2019 · 01/11/2019 08:52

Weird thing is my opks are still dark not positive but dark and I’m 4dpo?? Never had this before.. took one out of curiosity this morning and got this?? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Hoping there’s not something wrong xx

Can anyone make sense of this please.
MummyJasmin · 01/11/2019 08:57

@Livingmagicallyagain Possibly.

The dye shade seem a bit all over the place, no?
Just a bit frustrated as I'd hoped to have pinpointed what was going on.
Whats TSH please.

Thank you

@SunnyFlover - Thanks. Yes, I'm finding the colour, or shade, really confusing?
Def not pregnant, had my period from the 14th Oct, as per date expected.

@Sunflower2019 Granted my test line isn't darker than the control line but yes thats what I thought/hoped for...

My cycle sounds v similar to you: ave cycle length 28 days with length of period being 5 days.

Thank you

@MummyJasmin mine wasn’t this month as you’d have to test 2/3 times a day to catch it, as you can peak for only an hour or so and miss it, I missed mine!! Gonna buy a bulk of cheapies for next month and keep testing! Xx

DCIRozHuntley · 01/11/2019 10:35

I used SMEP and never saw a super dark positive (as OP says can peak for only an hour) but I was able to deduce when I ovulated as there was a clear increase in darkness over a few days then it started to get lighter again. I'd say you'd have had your positive OPK on about the 26th pm or 27th am so ovulated 28th/29th (ie CD14/15). Sometimes it just takes time to fall pregnant especially if sex is less regular than before with a toddler.

MummyJasmin · 01/11/2019 13:01

@Sunflower2019 I see! So maybe if I were to have tested 2x a day I would have caught it around 26th/27th...

@DCIRozHuntley OH and I were 'busy' around that date so fingers crossed....

@MummyJasmin exactly! Xx

Emma452 · 04/11/2019 06:39

I'm using Premom too. It works great for me. Tests over 10 minutes are considered invalid. Download Premom. You can take a picture of your test at the recommended time and upload to the app for viewing anytime you want. In your case, try another cycle. Good luck.

MummyJasmin · 04/11/2019 11:44

@Emma452Hi Emma. I've just downloaded it and logging sex/period/tests etc from the last month. It says something about not recognising them? But cba now I'll wait until next month now.

Emma452 · 05/11/2019 01:18

Hi Jasmin, what do you mean by "not recognizsing them"? Do you mean uploading test pictures? If you could include a picture, that would be very helpful. Sometimes lighting would affect. Once you get hang of it, it is actually pretty easy. You can also contact their customer service through Support tab for assistance anytime you need. They are patient, responsive, knowledgeable and informative. I did that a lot when I was new to this and find it really helpful.
