Antibiotics whilst ttc and cystitis symptoms...

I’ve had what I believed to be reoccurring cystitis since coming off the pill and ttc, have ignored it for two months and finally gave in and drs just called me to say I have an infection and need antibiotics..

Do you think being ill could of affected my chances of conceiving and will being on antibiotics affect anything?

Just don’t want to mess my chances up xxx

No, but not having the antibiotics and getting a kidney infection would as you'd be very poorly indeed. I'm glad you went to the doctors and I hope it clears up quickly for you soon x

Sex can easily cause cystitis, especially if you are having it more than usual TTC. While not overly romantic, make sure you are having a wee before & immediately after sex to stop too much bladder irritation and afterwards, to flush away bacteria around the urethra.

Def don’t ignore cystitis. It’s something that needs treating & also is really quite uncomfortable! No idea how you’d have sex with cystitis, it’s so painful & irritating!

I once got a kidney infection from cystitis that started over the weekend (couldn’t get to the doctors) & it quickly escalated to me ending up in hospital for a week really quite poorly!

I second this - I had 2 serious kidney infections at the end of last year / beginning of this and ended up in hospital on an IV drip... you don't want to let it get that far! so if you haven't conceived yet.. so focus on getting yourself well. I have had a couple of boughts of cystitis since we've been TTC and have accepted that keeping myself well has to come first...

I had this when we first started trying. I explained to the dr when he prescribed me antibiotics that we were TTC and he said the ones he’d given me were safe for that and just said keep going with TTC once symptoms have cleared up more just because of the pain rather than anything else. Went within about 2/3 days of the antibiotics. Good luck!

Thank you everyone, I seem to have issues with my bladder, had a catheter last year 🤦🏽‍♀️ Will definitely look after myself more and yes sex wasn’t good, would clear up for a day then try dtd then straight away it would come back.. told Dp I may be allergic to him 🤪 Anyway should be gone in the next fee days 😊 x
