If I ovulated late will it take longer for BFP?

I ovulated on the 19th/20th September so am currently 11/12 DPO with AF due tomorrow. A BFN on a One Step this morning. Sad Could I still be pregnant? I'm wondering if the fact I ovulated late in my 28 day cycle mean that it could take longer to get a BFP. I know I'm probably clutching at straws!

What does the leaflet say about accuracy? Google showed a First Response Early and One Step have the same level of sensitivity. Fc you get your BFP.

Thanks for the response. They are supposed to be sensitive but I've heard of people having issues with them. If I'm a BFN now one day before AF does that mean I'm out?

I ovulated much later than normal (4/5 days later) which meant my AF went back as well so when I normally would've had AF I added another 4/5 days on for new AF date. I'd had bfn when I took tests on original predicted AF date

I used a poundland first vue (20 mIU/mL) test (cheapie) and it is slightly more sensitive than One step (25 mIU/mL). You might have ovulated late so your test is negative because it is too soon.

So the phase between your ovulation and your period (the "dpo") is called the luteal phase and that should always be the same length (although the length varies between woman to woman).

So, if you ovulated later in your cycle your period would also be later as you will should expect the same number of days past of ovulation before your period in every cycle.

(the bit that can change cycle to cycle is the day you ovulate)

I think I ovulate late in my cycle. When I have been pregnant it takes me a couple of days after my period is actually due to get a positive

Skygirl1983 · 01/10/2019 10:58

I ovulated around the same date and had spotting at the weekend. BFN on tests and due on Thursday. Could the spotting have been implantation? What sort of stage po can that happen??

TwittleBee · 01/10/2019 11:01

how many days is your luteal phase usually?

implantation can happen anywhere from 7 to 14 days past ovulation but usually around 9 to 10 days. the most sensitive tests may work the day after implantation but maybe not until 2 days post ovulation. so you may not get a positive until around as late as 16dpo (assuming you wouldnt expect AF until 15dpo - most women have a luteal phase of 14 days)

Skygirl1983 · 01/10/2019 11:13

My cycle is around 29/30 days and looking at my app my luteal phase is around 14/15 days. I never usually spot but my CM was runny with tinges of brown on Saturday and on sunday I had pale pink on one of the wipes.

TwittleBee · 01/10/2019 12:51

@Skygirl1983 how are you working out when you ovulate, are you using OPKs or BBT charting? Apps will automatically assume a 14/15 luteal phase as that the most common length (hence the phrase TWW) but you might actually have a shorter or longer luteal phase - mine is 10/11 days and so I had actually been ill timing DTD for first couple months of TTC before I started using OPKs and BBT charting.

It does sound like implantation bleeding but I am surprised by lack of BFP for you by now but who knows. If you do have mid-cycle bleeding again I would recommend getting checked out by a DR as can be a sign of infection (mine was)

Skygirl1983 · 01/10/2019 13:00

I'm currently tracking with an app and have been for the past 6 months. We DTD every other day over the week it said I was most likely to be fertile. I tested yesterday after the spotting and it was negative so going to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days. I have had back cramps for about a week now too! If my AF comes I'll keep an eye out to see if I bleed like that again.

TwittleBee · 01/10/2019 13:14

Okay, yeah just tracking with an app doesnt tell you when you ovulate or how long your luteal phase is for sure so you could be missing your fertile week - like I had been. BUT, you may be lucky if you havent actually tested since the day after spotting! I would so be tempted to test tomorrow.

If your AF is ever late but you are still getting BFN then it will be because you ovulated late - this is why I turned to OPKs and BBT charting

Skygirl1983 · 01/10/2019 13:58

Ah ok. Thank you. I'll look into other ways of tracking if this month is a no go.

My periods usually turn up on time. But will be good to understand more
