PCOS but TTC but want a mortgage

Hi all

This is my first thread. I'm 25 and my boyfriend and I are currently renting and next year in the summer we will be in a position to hopefully buy our first house.

We both also are very broody and are ready to have kids now. My PCOS means that my fertility is probably lower than normal and I'm terrified that if we start trying next summer (a year away) my fertility will already be going down.

Seeing as we want 2/3 kids I want to start trying now. We keep talking about waiting until we have a mortgage though so we aren't stuck renting for 4/5 years.

What are your opinions on waiting to have babies when you have potential problems TTC? Should we just go for it?

Babies are the most important thing in my life, more than owning a house. Maybe I've just answered my own question, but I don't want to be renting and wasting money.

Thanks all xxSmile

It's a tricky one. I'm 30 and TTC our first. You still have time and your fertility won't be dropping sharply at 26-27. We waited to TTC well over a year because we were buying our house and were getting married. I found it really tough as I was ready and broody. We're on cycle 7 of trying and now I think what was the point in waiting but I think it was for the best.

There's no guarantee of how long conceiving will take so it might not interfere with your plans but then you have to consider if you could cope with pregnancy and buying a house potentially as they could overlap.

I personally am glad we got the house before baby as it's more secure and I am glad to be paying off a mortgage than renting. It might be worth considering if you will be in a position to get a mortgage when you have a baby. If you can, then maybe you can start TTC now.

Good luck xx

@Rosieposy89 Thanks for your reply. I know that people say your fertility doesn't start declining at 27/28 but I'm worried because of the PCOS. Do you have it too?

If I am at my 'most' fertile right now and I'm hardly ovulating then I kinda feel like I should take every chance that I've got.

I totally agree with you about buying a house first. It sounds like such a better idea and I'd rather be paying off the mortgage than renting. Plus we could get a nicer house if we buy because renting seems more expensive.

Getting a mortgage with a baby would be tricky, we wouldn't be able to get anything near what we could get without one. I know it would make sense to wait; just wish the babies were guaranteed afterwards.

Do you think pregnancy and buying a house at the same time is a bonkers idea? Xx

Hi, I don't have diagnosed PCOS but I have some of the symptoms (excessive hair, spots) but cycles are regular and ovaries don't have cysts.

I'd be inclined to wait and get the mortgage because I doubt another year will make that much of a difference to your fertility but having a baby could make a difference to a mortgage? Unfortunately a baby is never guaranteed whatever you do but there are things that can help.

I mean you can be pregnant and buy a house, I know I found buying a house super stressful and I am so glad I wasn't pregnant at the time!
