How long to wait for period after chemical pregnancy

Hi
Last month I found out I was pregnant at about 4 weeks, the next day I had some light bleeding and spotting (much like my usual period). I was still having positive pregnancy tests for about a week until I got two negative just over a week after the bleeding. Doctor confirmed it must have been a chemical pregnancy.

I'm just wondering how long it took people for things to return to normal? Can you get pregnant straight after chemical or does it take longer for your period to return?

If I count the bleeding last month as first day of period I would be due on now but nothing and no signs of coming on period yet.
I'm determined to wait at least until my period is over a week late before I do a pregnancy test as I don't want to go through the devastation I did last month.
