Yesterday morning, I forgot to take the minipill, and then in the middle of the night had sex. As soon as I remembered, I took one this morning - should I take another? DD2 is 8 months old and is breastfed fully, and I haven't had a period yet, so I am hoping that my chances of getting pregnant now are very slim. Plus I'm almost40, but I've gotten pregnant quite easily in the past. Please tell me what I can do! TIA

go and see your dr!

Seriously. I can't remember whether you can take the morning after pill if breastfeeding, but if not, then he/ she can insert an IUD, which would prevent any implantation. The reason I could never take the mini pill was the strictness with which you have to stick to the timing. Unless you wouldn't mind another baby then off to the surgery with you!

yes you can take the morning after pill and as I assume you were more than 3 hours late taking the mini pill, this may be a good idea. However, because you are exclusively breast feeding and not yet had a period (although obviously you can get pregnant before you see a period)it is quite unlikely you could get pregnant at this stage. If there is not a chance in a million you would want to get pregnant then I would advise you to seek emergency contraception asap. It is perfectly safe to take the morning after pill whilst breast feeding but it must be within 72 hours (more effective the sooner you take it) or you can get an IUCD fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sex. HTH. By the way, you did the right thing taking your forgotton pill as soon as you remembered, but you don't need to take any extras. Just carry on taking it as normal now.

You can get morning after pill from the chemist now, without a prescription or seeing the doctors. I think it is okay for up to 72 hours after having unprotected sex.

Hi almost40, me again!

Oh dear, I sympathise, but can't offer anything other that what others have advised here; except I know you're in the States - can you get the morning-after pill easily?

How are you feeling about a possible number 3 after our previous discussions? I take it it's not what you want just yet?

Lots of love xx

ah, but if your baby is less than 1 you won't pay for a prescription!

If by "breastfed fully" you mean "is getting no other food than breastmilk" then it is unlikely but not impossible that you have ovulated. If your baby is taking solids, but drinking only breastmilk, then you may have ovulated. Decide if you want to take that chance!

Good luck, whatever you want.

Didn't know you were in the States. Ignore the bit about prescription charges!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I called my dr, and he said that I should just take a double dose of the minipill, which I did. He said that it is unlikely that I will become pg since I have not had a period yet.
Wifeof, thanks for remembering me. I'm still thinking about a possible number 3, but definitely not yet.
