Pregnant after 2 day 'period' and very confused!

I've never posted on here before so forgive the lack of lingo.

I've been trying to conceive number 2 for around 2 and a half years. In that time, I've had all the usual tests (everything came back normal), 6 rounds of Clomid, and a miscarriage at 10 weeks. I'm booked in for a laparoscopy next week to check for endometriosis. I'm 39.

I had what I thought was my period last week, it was two days early and shorter than usual but I had heavy-ish, red bleeding and bad cramps (so bad I had to take a paracetemol). Then, over the weekend I had a nosebleed. The last time I had a nosebleed I was pregnant. I'm not sure what made me take a pregnancy test, but I did. It was a cheapie pound shop one but it was positive. I panicked and spent a fortune on a Clearblue test. It said 2-3 weeks pregnant.

I'm assuming now that my 'period' wasn't actually one after all, but it felt pretty normal. Apart from being shorter than normal (2 days rather than 5 and no spotting before and after), the pain and bleeding was pretty similar, though my periods have been a bit all over the place over the past few years.

Has anyone had this? What happened? Should I be worried it's ectopic? I'm thinking I might go to the doctor later this week when I'm off work, but if last month's period was my latest (if that makes sense) I'll only be 5 weeks this Thursday and I'm not sure he can do much.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Firstly, congrats! Flowers

Secondly, don't worry just yet. It sounds like implantation bleeding to me. Rather common it seems and can happen anytime from start of implantation to around 7 weeks! It's just where your little bean is attaching itself.

But, if you are worried please do go see your GP. Especially if the pain is particularly bad!

I had similar many years ago - what I thought was a short period (around the time it would have been due) but shortly afterwards a friend asked if I was pregnant (she could just tell because she said I looked different in the face, eyes I think) so I did a test which was positive. I went on to have a good pregnancy with no further bleeding, and gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

I had this both times I was pregnant and all was well both times. Confused the hell outnof me though as no way did I think I'd be pregnant after such red, heavy, period type bleeding. The only clue was that it lasted two days rather than the usual five or six for me.

MiffysBicycle · 26/11/2018 21:00

Thank you! All that is very reassuring.

Implantation bleed completely normal

Dori68 · 26/11/2018 22:56

Didn’t realise implantation bleeding could be confused for a period... how long afterwards until you can take accurately a pregnancy test? Presumably if the bleeding is early then wait until the date the period was expected?

Hello @MiffysBicycle
So sorry to hear what you are going through but I have to say I'm going through something very similar at the moment.
I found out on Thursday last week that I was pregnant - 3 days before AF was due and the digital test said 1-2 weeks on it. I then had a tiny amount of brown spotting for a couple of days but much less than a normal build up to period. Then when AF was due, Sunday, I had red blood. Yesterday I woke up with more red blood and it was fairly light as in not enough to be like a period but it was pretty close ( I have quite light periods anyway). I did have fairly mild cramps too.
This morning it seems to have calmed down a bit but still red blood. I tested again and it said 1-2 weeks still. I have a feeling I may have had a chemical pregnancy but I don't really have a clue 😢. I've read so many posts saying they've experienced similar and had healthy babies so I guess time will tell.
Wishing you all the very best!

I forgot to mention that my other half and I DTD on Sunday morning and I felt a sharp pain so I didn't know if this could have started the bleeding. 😩. I started bleeding about an hour after that.

sazzle3 · 27/11/2018 12:19

@miffysbicycle we having been ttc for 18 months with no luck. My periods are always 5-7 days and pretty heavy and I'm always on time or early and there painful. My periods just gone I was 3 days late and It started on the Friday morning and it stopped on the Sunday morning. It wasnt heavy at all and the wasn't any pain. I had no AF symptoms which I normally get. Do you think maybe I should test. Coz what happened to you sounds like what has just happened to me xx

MiffysBicycle · 27/11/2018 17:08

Hi PinkLady, sorry to hear this is happening to you too. I had a chemical pregnancy once and it was like a very heavy period, which sounds quite different. Hang on in there. Crossing my fingers for you.

Sazzle, I am definitely no expert on this but it sounds similar. Maybe test in a few days? It was nearly a week after the bleeding that I got my result, but hadn’t tested earlier so I don’t know if it would have shown sooner. Fingers crossed.

Mine started 16th finished 18th do u think it would show up if I was xx

PinkLady89x · 27/11/2018 21:17

@MiffysBicycle ahh that's reassuring. I don't know what to think. Basically I've had bleeding for 2 days now and it's not heavy at all but it does need a pad - not filling it much though. I tested this morning and it still says 1-2 weeks so I'm going to test again in a couple of days and it should have either gone up or gone down. If it stays the same that's not good either. Ahh, can't believe this is happening again! I've read so much online about taking aspirin to stop this sort of thing so I might look into that for future pregnancies 😢. How are you feeling now? Has anything changed?

PinkLady89x · 27/11/2018 21:17

@sazzle3 it sounds like you should do a test and see what happens x good luck!

LittleMiss01 · 24/02/2023 17:02

Hey guys so I done a test and it came back negative, on that day of doing the test I got really sore cramping in my stomach and started my period which wasn’t a heavy period like I would normally have. It’s been more lighter and has only lasted 2 days and stopped. Does anyone know why this could be?

LittleMiss01 · 24/02/2023 17:03

Sorry wrong threat I’m new to this lol apologies x
