I feel very happy and yet very naughty! Is this normal? I've just come off the pill ( 2weeks ago) and I wasnt going to until the end of the year, but my DH and I decided 'what the hell' lets gice it a go...................

So........ I've got a secret....... I'm trying for a baby!!!!!

shhhhhhhhh!

Not knowing what to expect with my periods yet, they will probably be all over the place for a long time as ive been on marvelon since i was 16. ( I was put on it to regulate my very heavy and irratic periods)

I finished my last packet 2 weeks ago, had my AF then stopped noramlly without taking my pill. (stopped after 3 days and normaly longer when i take my pill) weird?

so...I'm on the rollercoaster that is trying for a baby! any advice or welcomes greatly appreciated from the conception page ladies?

How exciting.

Just thought I would share my conception experience with you as it is similar.

I had been on the pill (Marvelon and then Microgynon) for 15 years when we decided to TTC. I came off it last July and my AF's were all over the place. It was hard to work out when I was ovulating as there were varying gaps between AF's.

Anyhoo, I became pg on my 3rd cycle after coming off the pill - although I actually conceived 2 weeks after ovulating (I used one of those sticks that you pee on to test for ovulation) so I have to this day no idea how that happened - but it did and I now have a gorgeous DS fast approaching his first birthday.

Good luck - will be keeping my fingers crossed for you

fifilou · 07/06/2007 10:55

thanks cebee!

I'm not under any illusins that it will be plain sailing, my friends have all expereinced one problem or anohter, its not as easy as everyone expects is it?!

I'm a bit worried about how my periods will be, I'm hoping they wont be as awful as they were when I was 16! I'm 32 now, so I think I'm trying at a good time. I've got friends who are doctors who feed me all this medical jargon about trying for a baby. I just want it to be as 'normal' as possible.

I've got one friend who is going insain over trying, I feel so awful for her, she spends so much money on ovulation prediciton tests, and I really dont want to go down that road just yet. its early early days for me, but I'm sooooo excited!

I have this gut feeling I wont ever be pregnant though. My mum says thats natural, and she thought that. She said it was the most amazing feeling when she found out she was though.

thanks for your advice!

Good Luck!
I would say, try to tell as few people as possible as the constant questioning can become really tiresome.

Ceebee74 · 07/06/2007 11:04

Sorry to depress you but my periods were pretty awful in the 3 months I had them - very heavy and seemed to go on forever - but I am sure everyone is different.

Think positive - and being pg with your first baby is so fantastic, savour every minute of it. I LOVED it despite the negative bits of it.

The average time it takes to conceive is 6 months so some people have to do it quickly don't they?

My db and his girlfriend have been trying for 2 years and are now expecting a baby in December.

Hope that is enough positive stories for you to give you a boost

fifilou · 07/06/2007 11:04

i love thta name! Im giggling! devilwearsprimark! I love primark and im not a chav i promise!!!!

thanks for the advice, we have decided to keep it really shhhhhhhhhh, because I've seen how my friends have been when others know they are trying. Its like every time they say they feel ill, they get comments like 'ooooooooooh something you want to tell us?' which is so awful.

ive told my mum, thats the only one who knows apart from DH.

Hi! Lovely thread title, lovely time for you.

Don't forget to start taking your folic acid supplements now. You might just be luckly early on.

Best of luck on your exciting journey

fifilou · 07/06/2007 11:08

cebee, dont worry Its not depressing, I have every expectation they will be pretty rubbish for a while.

Af's have never bothered me even though I get pretty bad pains and am heavy to the point of sometimes getting quite poorly! I had to make a decision to go for it, or to not try at all.

I think we've made the right choice, I really hope it works out for us. Its good to knwo about other people who have been on the pill and how long/how bad there periods took to get back to normal.

any advice is greatlfully recieved xx

fifilou · 07/06/2007 11:11

OMG! I cant beleive I forgot about folic acid!

many thanks, will pop out now and get some.

Anything else I need to take?

This new goverment guideline suggests not drinknig ANY alcohol while trying, that sounds a bit extreme! Its nice to realx with a glass of wine and 'get in the mood'. Should I stop?

Also what about caffeine?

(I obviously wouldnt touch a drop if I became pregnant.)

Hi fifilou

I am in the exact same situation as you. Came off microgynon mid April have had one visit from AF, expecting next AF any day now.

I am also 32 and had been on microgynon since 17yrs old (due to irregular, painful periods etc).

I have only told my sister, needed someone to talk to - to stop me going mad!

I am going to see what happens in the first 6 months while things settle. If nothing happens I will start charting temps I think.

I also know lots of people that have had difficulties conceiving. I think perhaps we try and prepare ourselves for the worst, just in case it doesn't happen.

Good luck, hope we will be celebrating our BFPs soon.

nomoremagnolia · 07/06/2007 12:00

Hello fifilou (and minnow1) welcome to the wonderful world that is ttc!
come over and join us on the ttc no 1 thread , we're all learning together!

Treenie · 07/06/2007 12:05

Hi Fifilou
looks like you and I are in the same boat. I have just come off the pill too - only five days ago mind you - and am going to start trying after next af.
It's all bit scary isn't it?! but very exciting too. Good for you for deciding to go for it. We've umed and ahed for nearly a year now and decided we just need to get on with it - you can wait forever otherwise as there will always be something to put it off for.
Now regarding things to take. I am a big fan of all things organic - I know some people don't believe in it but I've been eating this way for years and think it works.
If you want my humble opionion you should get yourself some organic vitamins - much purer and more easily absorbed according to my vast research.
Google 'Sage Organic'. Great mail order compnay that do a fab preggy vit and herb pack and one for men to. Get your dh on them asap too. Also get a good essential fatty acid supplement cause it's really good for baby's brain and general development. I take Eskimo-3 fish oil - very pure and recomended to be by a nutritionist. Again have a look on google.
Something I am also doing is staying away from any harsh cleaning products at home cause studies show they can effect you and the baby - things like oven cleaner etc. Am using a company called Ecover - get them in all good supermarkets. Really good and far fewer nasty chemicals. If you must use the old stuff wear rubber gloves and open the windows.
Hope that's not too mcuh info and please feel free to ignore it if you don' agree! Or if you want to know more let me know and I'll start on all the other stuff I do!
Loads of luck with it. Let's keep each other posted. x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/06/2007 13:30

fifilou,

As someone who was once in a very similar situation to your good self I would keep an eye on your cycles from now on and if they do revert back to be as heavy, painful (very painful periods can be due to endometriosis) and irregular, seek medical advice sooner rather than later.

Any woman who shows such symptoms needs to be properly evaluated to establish the underlying causes.

The Marvelon would certainly have helped but what is may have done as well is just mask the symptoms of the underlying problems.

Would have to say that irregular periods are often caused by hormonal problems (in this regard polycystic ovaries or its related syndrome PCOS) are common culprits.

Heaviness of periods may be due to fibroids - again further evaluation will be needed if your periods become heavy.

fifilou · 07/06/2007 14:07

hi!

I'm back again. Just did a big shop, sorting out bits and bobs and finally having lunch and a cuppa!

Have just taken a sanatogen pre pregnancy pill. It said on the box 'for pre, during and after pregnancy' and the chemist recomended it.

thanks Treenie on organic advice, wil check out google and yes, get DH to pop some baby making pills too.

minnow1 - how exciting is this? Its great to talk annon. to everyone because i feel like shouting out loud HEY IM TRYING FOR A BABY HERE!!!!!!!!

xx

Attila the meerkat, that all sounds very scary. I will see how AF is when she returns and if its any way like before, will defo go to my doctors.

thanks all!

Hi fifilou!! I've got 10 pills left to take and then I'll be in the same position as you!! I was on the pill for years too so have all the same feelings and doubts as you have.. It's great to be able to share them on here!

There seem to be a few of us all at the same stage (give or take a few weeks) so it'll be great to keep in touch on here and see how we all do!

Like you I want to try and relax and go with the flow for now as I have so many friends having troubles and some of the stories on MN are heartbreaking.

I was quite disheartened by all of the news on alcohol and TTC as like you I always intended to give up completely when pregnant but never even though about TTC and the 2WW!!

Hi Treenie!! How's it going?

Hello Minnow1 - welcome to MN!

mum03 · 07/06/2007 21:33

fifilou - congrats on your decision to start ttc. For the others here that are also embarking on the journey, I am adding the link to a previous thread you started, for more information on experiences of others of : coming off pill

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2007 21:42

FIFI!!!!!!!!! I can't BELIEVE you were having this convo somewhere else and you directed me to a blardy nannie thread!!!!!! You bad, bad girl!!!! How exciting! We'll get a nice comfy chair ready for you and chuck up the overflowing ashtrays and put a new water chiller in and and and ..... everything! HOW EXCITING - have I already said that, oh yes, I have. Eeeeek!

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2007 21:45

Lordy, it doesn't take much to excite me these days - I must get out more! I meant chuck OUT the ashtrays, not chuck up - hopefully that will be you sooner rather than later!

fifilou · 11/06/2007 12:51

How excited are you lot? does it get stressful after a few months when nothing happens? I sooooooooooo dont want to let it tske over my life though, but i cant stop thinking about it. Its like evrywhere i look theres preggas women!

I work with children too so pregnant mums and mums with new babies are evrywhere!

OP posts:
toomuchtimeonline · 13/06/2007 10:38

I'm the same Fi! If I didn't have MN to lurk and post on I think I would have lost my mind!

fifilou · 13/06/2007 14:10

it's like I cant talk at work because I'm a nanny, and then everyone would ask at every minute if I was pregnant yet.

I cant talk to my friends because I dont want to totally bore them or gross them out with my bodily functions, and what im up to indoors!

thank god for mn!

OP posts:
toomuchtimeonline · 13/06/2007 21:01

I second that Fi !!

luchinka · 25/06/2007 20:47

hello, I've been a MN lurker for a while and thinking vaguely about ttc. saw this thread it's my exact satory.
I'm also just off the pill, although I only took it for two months to avoid a period on my wedding day. I've had what I think is called a withdrawal bleed straight after the last pill and my normal cycle is about 35 days. I'm not temping or anything...don't want to obsess if possible. Just letting nature take it's course and see what happens. I'm 32 by the way.

rascal1979 · 29/06/2007 21:40

I came off the pill on 29 April after being on it for almost 10yrs, and immediately started trying for a baby. I'm now around 8 weeks pregnant! Little quicker than we thought it would be but delighted nonetheless!

Good luck TTC
