anyone there? egg seen on ultrasound, bad FSH result in post

have had a menstrual cycle monitored... an egg release was seen on ultrasound but today blood test results from day 2 came through showing too high FSH and reduced reserve of eggs.

if an egg is there, does that mean a pregnancy can happen? does the high FSH only refer to egg production, and if you get an egg all can be fine or can it mean a pregnancy cannot be sustained?

FSH levels are tricky - basically it is a follicle (ie egg) stimulating hormone. If you don't have enough the egg doesn't get released. But if an egg was seen, clearly that is normal for you.

I had a very low FSH rate and was diagnosed with PCOS (despite having periods and few symptoms). I was told IVF was our only option.

I got pregnant naturally the next month and now have a seven month old daughter .

But I did find that when I went to acupuncture my hormone levels shot up anyway. Perhaps you could try that.

Honestly though, if there is an egg there, it'll find a way. Your oestrogen/prog are much better as an indicator of whether the egg will survive if implanted.

thanks for that - delighted to hear about your daughter. loved your name!

at the moment I do not have proper info about oestroegen/prog levels but hope to get that next week

Hi Meysey,
the egg may be there but not necessarily of good quality - sorry - usually the FSH level gives a good indication of no. of eggs and in some cases quality - another test the AMH (I think that is what it is) gives you a better indication of quality. I had an FSH of 10 and still produced 6 follicles but the quality was not too good. There are herbal remedies that you can take to improve quality and FSH levels can go up and down each month. Not sure if this helps you?? But as they say it only takes one good egg - even from a depleted egg reserve - to get a BFP!.

thanks for your realistic yet hopeful response... it is very frustrating only having part of the picture...
