Alcohol and TTC

Hi - I've been lurking here for months now but have finally plucked up the courage to post.

I was just wondering (with all of the news today about pregnant women not drinking at all) what everyone thinks about drinking whilst TTC - do you all just give up in the period that you could be pregnant e.g. post ovulation or do you wait to see if you are pregnant 2 weeks later? Or have you all given up completely?

Also, have any of your men given up alcohol to protect their sperm? No one seems to talk about the effect on men much - and since it is 3-4 months in advance it seems quite hard for them.

I am just starting TTC and I find the whole thing a mine-field (how naive of me to think you just BD and get pregnant and carry on life as normal). Obviously in an ideal world both of us would be tee-total for 6 months and health freaks but.. well any advise on what you're all doing/have done is much appreciated.

DS was conceived when we were out partying almost every day for a couple of weeks (wow the energy I used to have pre child LOL), and I felt gulity about that my whole pregnancy (still do actually ).

Haven't been drinking since because I'm BF so won't drink this time TTC.

Yeah Archiesmummy - I'm worried that if I get pregnant when I've been drinking I'll feel guilty for the full 9 months -which will be awful! Trouble is that I'm on holiday during my fertile time and I really don't want to have to either not drink for 2 weeks or wait another month to TTC so i'm in a dilema! Also I don't want the people who are on holiday with me to realise I'm ttc because I'm not drinking (we're trying to keep TTC to ourselves for now.) It's all very difficult knowing what's best isn't it.
