Bleeding - sign of pregnancy or something to worry about?

Apologies in advance if this post has TMI!

Me and DH are aTTC with first baby, we have only been trying since April and although I am taking the vitamins etc we have decided to keep it relaxed and I'm not charting or taking temp or OPKs or anything like that. Just having sex every other day throughout my cycle. I have a 34 day cycle usually and so im not exactly sure when I ovulate in those 5 weeks, but the estimates were 7-12th May (last period began on 22nd April). After we DTD on Monday I noticed a small amount of blood afterwards, not much at all, and I didn't carry on bleeding afterwards but did have some light cramping. We DTD again this morning and the same thing has happened.

Could this be an early sign of pregnancy? Or is it too early for implantation bleeding etc? I had my last smear in November and all was fine. Not sure what to do now, I'm reluctant to go to docs as I'm currently waiting for two other referrals for unrelated stuff and I don't want them to start thinking I'm a hypochondriac! But I guess I will do if it turns out I'm not pregnant this month.

Hi, I’m not sure really. I suppose it’s possible it’s an implantation bleed. However seems strange it’s only after dtd. I’d wait and see if bfp, if not I’d mention it to doctor.

It’s too early for either implantation bleeding or pregnancy symptoms. The fact it happens after sex would indicate it’s something to do with that. It’s not uncommon to spot after sex. Not enough lubrication, more forceful sex etc can cause this. So can having more sex than usual. I would keep an eye on it though as it can be an indicator of an underlying health problem

Thank you both. We have started DTD more this month as we are properly trying but it's still a bit odd. I have also felt really tired and quite sick these last couple of days but really trying not to symptom spot and read into things!

Warning, definitely TMI coming up so look away now if needed!

I'm now wondering if the blood could be coming from him, if that makes sense? There is nothing obviously wrong in his downstairs department but the fact that the blood only comes away after DTD, with the rest, makes me think it could be there from him? I could ask him to do a trial run by himself to check! Blush

You could have a small cervical ectropion which may bleed a little on contact. They're harmless, definitely not a sign of cancer or anything, but if it gets bumped you might see a little spotting after sex. I've had one for years. If you do have one it'll be visible, so you could make an appointment with the nurse to have a look, same as when you have a smear and from experience they will probably take a couple swabs to rule out STIs.

Thanks Fred, I went to the docs today and she looked at my cervix and I do indeed have a small cervical ectropian. I was a bit worried at first but like you say they are harmless, the doc reassured me and said they are actually very common in women of childbearing age. I was on the pill for a long time previously so she thinks it might have developed because I could have higher oestrogen levels now my hormones aren't being regulated by the pill!

Ps. No AF yet so still keeping fingers crossed for BFP this month!
