I’m going to have to put ttc on hold aren’t I?

I stupidly let my career dictate when we should ttc again (thinking extra money would be useful!) and the promises made by work never materialised which makes it so much worse! I booked a holiday as we agreed to delay but the holiday runs the risk of dengue fever. I can’t see anything saying do not travel whilst pregnant but the risks to pregnancy are bad Sad we have spoken in depth about having a family and how it will work and it was a hard decision to delay it but I have now become so unbelievably broody and deeply regret delaying in the first place.

@LetTheRiverRun I'm sorry for you that sounds difficult to deal with and I totally get where you're coming from as we were in a similar situation earlier this year. But the thing that kept me going was knowing that if I was worrying about conceiving then chances were it wouldn't happen anyway so it was best to use protection and just enjoy yourself. I hope that is some consolidation and best of luck to you x

Thank you Peachy. I’m so frustrated with myself Sad I said I wouldn’t let work dictate our family and I did. No doubt the holiday will be incredible but 8 months feels like a very long time to wait again

Can you transfer the holiday to a different location? [You probably have thought of this I know.]

SaturdaySauv · 07/05/2018 14:34

How old are you? Is it just the holiday standing in your way currently? In your shoes I’d consider cancelling the hol (depending on age and if the hol is the only thing currently holding you back).

LetTheRiverRun · 07/05/2018 14:39

I have thought about it and even considered cancelling but the deposit was pretty substantial and I have been the one to change my mind so don’t think it would be fair on dh to do it again. He knows I’m upset at myself and he just says we will have a wonderful holiday and it will be out last big trip together before having a family so not to be upset. I even chose the destination based on the fact it didn’t run the risk of Zika virus as I didn’t want to delay 6 months after. I can’t find anything about dengue being a risk after as it seems to take effect within days so I hope that’s right Confused

I’m 29. The holiday we booked is over my 30th. I want to start trying asap as I want to change career direction but can’t for around 3 years when I qualify so don’t want to be taking career breaks whilst starting out. I have done everything at the wrong time in the wrong order!

At 29 i'd say you have loads of time.

LetTheRiverRun · 07/05/2018 14:48

I know deep down I have plenty of time and it’s not an awful situation but I got my heart set on having a family, delayed it thinking I was doing the best for that family to have the promise of an opportunity pulled from under me. In the words of mumsnet I think I need to put my big girl pants on!

At 29 I’d go on the holiday unless you feel so upset with the situation you won’t enjoy it.

knockknockknock · 07/05/2018 15:11

Will they not let you change location then?

Rippedoffpissedoff · 07/05/2018 15:21

At 29 8 months is really not going to make any difference. Enjoy your lovely holiday - what fun, and more difficult to do exotic stuff with small DC. Start eating really well, taking your vits, exercising. Put a bit more money aside. I really don’t think you’d be putting your plans in jeopardy.

LetTheRiverRun · 07/05/2018 17:21

Thank you for your reassurance ladies Smile it’s not an easy one to change as we have combined two tour operators. I know I will not regret the holiday so I just need to think about that for now

Oh no :( I get you though I do. We honeymooned in Cuba and didn't want to start TTC because of Zeeka and now my in laws have booked us all a holiday back there in November! So grateful and can't wait to be back in our honeymoon spot but can't go if fall pg and can't try if we go there. So many things can dictate TTC :( xx

Peachy92 · 16/05/2018 11:59

Well an update...No Cuba for me! Just as I was thinking, well actually a holiday there would be lovely especially with the in-laws who love it too and it would be a nice break from worrying about TTC.... but 6 days after they booked it I found out we'd been successful finally and I got a very BFP on Sunday! Now that I have my BFP @LetTheRiverRun i'd say make the most of that holiday and relax and enjoy, as once the deed is done the choice is no longer yours... Which is actually scary once it happens! :S I hope you have a lovely holiday and wishing you all the luck for when you start TTC again xx

tinytemper66 · 16/05/2018 20:46

How lovely x
