Positive test in afternoon and negative folllowig morning?

Had pale but definitely there line on FRER yesterday afternoon, came up within a few minutes. Did another FRER with first morning urine this morning and the line was barely there, much much paler than day before (I probably would have just thought it negative if I wasn't REALLY staring at it under a bright light!) and Clearblue digital was negative 😢 I'm 13dpo. Anyone ever had positive test in afternoon and negative next morning and still been pregnant?? So worried it's a chemical☹️

Hi @RoseGoldEagle
I've just had the same thing! Tested yesterday afternoon and pale line and this morning nothing.
I'm going to wait until Sunday to test again
I'd say just test again in a couple of days and hopefully your levels have gone higher
Fingers crossed for you!

Hi, It can be really confusing sometimes. I know some tests state they can test for hcg really early but it’s different for everyone. We all have different cycles, ovulation and implantation times. I believe it’s from implantation that the hcg hormone really starts growing. So depending on when you implanted, there may not be quite enough hormones in your urine to detect yet.
If you got a line yesterday, it could be an evaporation line. My friend had this. It’s very faint but definitely there. Sadly she thought it was a positive and like you, The next day took another test expecting it to appear darker but saw less.
Don’t loose heart though as until you get your period, you can still easily be pregnant.
The first response tests are more accurate than clear blue in my opinion. On test packets it will state the number of hcg that can be earliest detected. Smaller the number, more sensitive the tests. Most expensive tests are not necessarily the best. Superdrug tests are really good too.
Try again in a couple of days if your cycle is usually 28 days. If a faint line shows in a couple of minutes, it should be positive. Best of luck x

This happened to me and unfortunately, I started bleeding the day after it turned negative. Hopefully this won’t be the case for you, but figured I should be honest.

RoseGoldEagle · 01/02/2018 09:11

Thanks for your honestly TheCatPaws, that's what I'm afraid of 😢 Thanks for the info Bursting, I'm pretty sure it wasn't an evap (I know it's not that clear on pics but it's definitely pinker and came up quickly in real life!) but I know even then it doesn't mean it will stick. Argghh Daisy May it's so hard isn't it?! I'm impressed you can wait til Sunday to re-test, I don't think I'll be able to hold out til then! Keep me posted and fingers crossed for both of us! xx

I agonised for days over the tests when this happened to me. As hard as it is, it doesn’t help. It’s a waiting game and I know it feels horrible.

I hope you get a decent outcome. Happy to chat on PMs if you need to vent Flowers

BifsWif · 01/02/2018 09:50

I have had the same and unfortunately it was a chemical pregnancy.

It’s not over until your period arrives, keeping everything crossed for a stronger line tomorrow for you Flowers

RoseGoldEagle · 01/02/2018 12:11

Thanks everyone and sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancies. Am going to try and forget about it today and tomorrow (as if really!) and retest Saturday morning (unless AF shows up tomorrow that is).

Thank you. I got my BFP the following month and now have a beautiful two year old, so don’t give up hope!

Best of luck x

RoseGoldEagle · 02/02/2018 07:39

I caved and took one this morning and it's not looking good, line is still super pale, identical to this time yesterday morning. Do you mind me asking with your chemical pregnancies how long it took before your period came- was it normal time or delayed? Really want to get back to trying now! Biswif that's lovely to hear 😊

Can you take a test in the afternoon rather than the morning? I know everyone says to test in the morning as hcg levels will be higher, but I'm starting to wonder if this is not always the case.

When I tested it got nothing first thing in the morning but had the urge to test at about 10am, so about 4 hours later and got a really strong line. So I decided to test this next morning to "check" and I got hardly any line at all. I took a test again at about 11am and a solid line!

I'm just saying it might be worth trying later in the day because you never know.

BifsWif · 02/02/2018 07:49

It was only a day or two later than my period should have been, the lines faded to nothing over two days - are yours definitely getting lighter? You might not have to worry just yet!

RoseGoldEagle · 02/02/2018 08:25

Well to be fair you probably couldn't get paler than yesterday's without it not being there at all, (have tried taking photo but even though you can just see in real life it doesn't come out on the photo), so I guess it's the same, but I suppose if there's still a trace of hcg there it might take another day or so to go completely negative- I was asleep for 11 hours (!) so FMU should have been concentrated enough to show more than that if it was progressing I think. Had hoped maybe yesterday's test had less dye or something, but I think his morning's being the same has taken away that last glimmer of hope. Just hope period starts soon really as despite saying I'm 'sure' now I still can't help squinting at that line ! Hope your outcome is better DaisyMay, I did read lots of positive things about a one off fainter line not being a big deal yesterday, so fingers crossed yours will be fine!

Mine was about two days late. The line stayed the same for a few days, then gradually got lighter, went negative and I got my period.

AmyM712 · 02/02/2018 09:32

Just throwing in my experience. I had this exact thing. A positive digital in the evening. Next morning with FMU it was negative! I tested again later that day and it was positive again. My son is now 1 and a half. Good luck. All very stressful!

RoseGoldEagle · 03/02/2018 09:34

Thanks everyone. line the same this morning, (I.e. super pale same as last two days). In some ways I wish I hadn't tested early and got my hopes up, but then I was thinking if I'd waited until the day after AF to test like I'd originally planned (which is today) I'd have just sent that pale line today with nothing to compare it to and been so excited today thinking this was the start of my BFP! Good to know for the future that a one-off paler test might not mean so much, just hoping period comes soon and we can get back to trying. Thanks for everyone's advice xx

I’m having the exact same, I have spotting pinky brown cd16 and 17 then it stopped, been feeling rubbish so tested last night positive test took another straight after negative 🤔ordered some first response to see as these where only internet cheapies but don’t think it was evap as the line is pink ?

Positive test in afternoon and negative folllowig morning?
RoseGoldEagle · 03/02/2018 11:14

Bottom one looks good, when you say another one straight after do you mean on the same urine sample or a different one? As if different could have just not had enough time for hcg to build uo again? Yeah I'd give FRER a go- they seem super sensitive so reckon they'll give you a better idea.

OP posts:
spugzbunny · 03/02/2018 11:20

I found that in the early days you could
Only pick up a darkening line over a 48hr period. The amounts of hcg are so small it's not easy to detect the change from day to day and factors such as urine concentration really make a difference when it's so early on

Foamybanana93 · 03/02/2018 11:24

It was the same sample so would have thought it would be the same result which is got me confused, just praying that the first one is right and I am actually pregnant we’ve been tying for 3 years with no luck so fingers crossed 🤞🏽

RoseGoldEagle · 03/02/2018 11:56

I think false positives are so much rarer than false negatives so it seems more likely the positive one is right, I guess each test can be slightly different in sensitivity even if it's the same brand so maybe the negative one just wasn't quite sensitive enough to pick it up. Really hope it's a good outcome for you x

Just updating this to anyone googling similar issues in the future, my period started today so 2 days late, so was definitely a chemical pregnancy in my case x
