How quickly did you have a period after coming off the pill?

Hi,
I'm going to be retested for polycystic ovaries in a few months. So, the dr has taken me off the pill. I have been on it without a break for atleast 5 years if not more. My question is how long did it take? Before I went on the pill I was bleeding atleast every two weeks sometimes more.... so don't know what to expect

I was on the POP no breaks for 13yrs, I had what I believe was break through bleed in 2 weeks, then 27 days later a very heavy AF and then another 28 days what I think was first normal AF.

I believe it varies so much from women to women though.

i was on the pill for 4.5 years, came off it and didn't have another period as i got pregnant straight away, the first month i stopped it 😵 so be careful of that...not recommended i don't think.

I was on it for around 12 years. It took me 50 days to get my first period off it. I had had one in around a year before that. (I switched to cerazette) my advice is to enjoy the TTC, don't get too worried right now and live in the moment. Too often people get upset or stressed the first few months and as it can take a while to conceive you really don't want to be living like that. Good luck with your tests, fingers crossed it comes back soon and your cycles are regular. I would also advise taking folic acid and vitamin d ONLY. Lots of sex and ENJOY each other. 😊

Thanks I'm not ttc they are trying to see if I have polycystic ovaries. I started break through bleeding today so I guess it's just a matter of watching

I stopped it around the time I was due for a withdrawal then had that. First period off it was 29 days after the start of my withdrawal.

56 days from my final pill to have a natural period. That was after being on for 10 years or so! It then took me about 5 months to get a cycle of a decent length and no mid cycle bleeding, I got pregnant the month after!

ClaireL90 · 23/07/2017 20:31

They are looking into a potential ovary problem with me so I'm really nervous about it. I've been doing nothing else but looking up polycystic ovaries for the past week. I don't want a baby yet - just turned 27, but, maybe in a year or two. I know this sounds stupid but how do I count my cycle? Do I count from the last day off the withdrawal bleed to whenever my natural period shows up?

You've posted this in conception which is confusing if you're not TTC. However yes your cycle starts with a period on CD1 and continues until your next period. I would use an app to track which will also be very useful when you do TTC. The reason the doc will be wanting to take you off the pill is because PCOS can stop you having cycles. Good luck!

Not sure if this is a a helpful reply for you- I took the combined pill for almost 15 years, stopped it aged 34 and had withdrawal bleed as expected, then fell pregnant before having any proper period.

This also happened again aged 37 last year so have never experienced how long it takes for AF post-pill.
However, it can really vary for women, as might be expected.

Thanks. I'd like a baby in a year or two but I sort of want to know if I have a problem first. I've started the withdrawal bleed yesterday- woke up today having flooded. This is exactly like it was when I was a teenager. I had a horrible period every two weeks or so.

I've just last week come off the Pill (Cilest) after about 16 years on various pills. Had my usual withdrawal bleed two days after coming off so once that's over I'll be waiting to see what happens. Very weird not to think about carrying that packet with me everywhere...

Even if you're not TTC I'd suggest tracking your cycle with an app like Ovia so you can stay on top of things and let doctors etc know what's going on.

I was on the combined Pill for only just over a year. I stopped it end of Aug and had a withdrawal bleed as normal, then nothing until December! It really does affect everyone so differently. I did get pregnant the following cycle though so no lasting damage done, though I won't be going back on hormonal contraceptives until we're done having children.

Good luck OP. Hope you get answers soon and it's good news.

ClaireL90 · 24/07/2017 15:57

I need some advice. I woke up this morning having pretty much flood as I was getting in the shower. The morning was pretty much the same - although no actual flooding because I was going to the toilet so often. Now it's gone to practically nothing. I've put in a tampon to check but will in a couple of hours. Should I go to the dr. This is my withdrawal bleed. The last one (I just had my period about ten days prior.)

Sounds like this is your af. They will be weird and wonderful for a while. Don't worry. It's normal. If you have an increased amount of bleeding for a long time (more than 7 days) that's when you should consult your GP. Good luck!

ClaireL90 · 24/07/2017 18:47

What does af mean?

I have PCOS, diagnosed shortly before I fell pregnant with DD. She was a bit of a miracle! After she was born I went on the pill (Microgynon). I stayed on it for just over two years, took my last one in October last year. Had the usual bleed after that, but nothing since, apart from a week of random spotting. We are TTC DC2 and it's driving me crackers!

I've read that pretty much anything goes in the months after coming off, and it can be very frustrating.

Good luck OP Flowers

AF = Aunt Flow / Period.

howthelightgetsin · 25/07/2017 13:55

I was on for over ten years. Other than the break through bleed I never had a period as I got pregnant straight away (probably almost 4 weeks after my last pill).
First few weeks after break through bleed (whilst not yet pregnant) was very weird.. could almost feel all the hormones leaving my system - ridiculously tired, hot flushes etc.

ClaireL90 · 25/07/2017 18:36

My stomach has been hurting and I've had a horrific break through bleed, flooding etc pretty gross
