Period pain, TTC and in need of a little help!

Me and my partner have been trying to conceive for about 5 months now. I know it doesn't seem like a very long time but I'm beginning to worry that there is something wrong with me...
I suffer with the most horrendous and crippling period pain. On a scale from 1-10, I would give the pain a solid 11. I've been for scans and I've seen numerous doctors and I keep being told that it is completely normal and that there is nothing they can do for me.
I've tried Mefenamic acid, I've mixed up all sorts of painkillers (with permission from the doctor of course) and I can't go on the combined pill because I suffer migraines, not to mention it would prove difficult conceiving!
I know within my heart that it isn't normal and I am beginning to convince myself that there is something wrong with my reproductive system.
Can I demand to be referred a specialist? Can I refer myself to a gyno?
What can I do to ensure I get the help I know I need to find out what is so evidently wrong with me?

Hi hope your OK I suffer with this too my doctors gave me mefenamic acid and tranexamic acid to take together and that help's me. Evening primrose is meant to be good to although didn't work for me. I now how terrible it can be there's days I can barely get out of bed xx

I'm okay now it's over but it makes me feel so miserable and hopeless for three days a month. For something that is meant to be natural for us, it shouldn't cause so much pain.

Raspberry leaf tea is great for your uterus!! Twinings do a nettle tea which is great for ttc too!! Do some research and get drinking!!

Have you had blood tests to check your hormone levels? Which doctors have you seen - just GPs or any specialists?

If I were you I would focus on the pain issue for now, because they won't refer you for fertility tests until you've been TTC for at least a year. I suggest you insist on a gynaecology referral to investigate your painful periods. I think that's fair enough given you've already tried mefenamic acid and painkillers.

You could also look into the cost of a private fertility MOT.

I've just been to see a regular GP. I've been sent for an ultrasound but no one has sent me for a blood test as of yet.
I understand I can't get any fertile help for another 7 months, but I can't help thinking that maybe the pain might be a symptom of something more and if that's the case then what if it's destroyed my fertility?

I understand your worries, there might be an underlying problem that is affecting your fertility, but it could just be that it's taking you a bit longer to conceive - I've read that most people conceive within 6 months but it can take many people up to a year or longer.

In order to get your gynaecology referral, I think you need to focus on the painful periods, the fact that it's still not resolved, and you need specialist help to rule out any undiagnosed issues.

If you just say that you have been TTC without any success they might think you're just trying to get an early referral for fertility help and fob you off.

I completely agree. I'm not going to mention I'm trying to conceive because they're going to focus too much on the time frame and not on the actual problem. I am aware that the two things aren't actually connected but it really does play on my mind and make me worry, you know?
I am aware that it might just be taking me a little bit longer to conceive

I was told by a doctor I might have this, but the scans I went for were clear so it was ruled out
