Have discussed with dh and we both think we would like another (dd is 10 from a previous relationship, and ds is 2).

trying to time it with the end of my degree in August 2008, so ideally would like to get pregnant Dec-ish 2007.

So apart from getting the mirena removed (and how soon do I need to do that), what other things do I need to do to make for a happy and easy conception given that I am now the ripe old age of 32

Good luck

mummytosteven · 05/01/2007 19:09

erm have lots and lots of sex???? my friend conceived 2nd cycle after her mirena was removed.

ernest · 05/01/2007 19:22

1st of all am pleased for you - very exciting decision.

Re mirena, I know the blurb says you can get pg straight away after removal, but as with pill, it can take months to get your body/hormones readjusted. WOuld you consider having it removed say late summer and using other methods to tide you over till December? The earlier the better imo. I had mine removed and it took me 10 months to conceive.

I'd also do the usual, pre preg. vit sups, healthy diet, watch how much you drink etc etc.

Oh, and good luck

mosschops30 · 05/01/2007 20:22

thanks yes i was thinking about maybe august/september time for mirena to come out at least then I will know how my cycle is, because before it went in it was bonkers.

when do you start taking folic acid, the last two werent planned so only took when found out

well, I'd suggest you start as soon as you have mirena removed, if not before, to make sure you're not caught out and to build up you're body's supplies

mosschops30 · 06/01/2007 18:28

so if i take them september but not planning pg til dec/jan that will be ok?

and do you think 3 years makes a lot of difference to your fertility? I caught very easily with the other two?

Don't stop using contraception until you actually want a baby. I got pregnant after trying for...oooh....about 10 minutes at the age of 40! (I told the midwife 20 to make dh feel better )

mosschops30 · 06/01/2007 18:35

aloha. I'm just worried that my body might need a bit of time to get back to normal from the mirena.

No worries anyway we only have sex about twice a year

Aloha - v jealous .

ernest · 07/01/2007 09:39

mosschops, I doubt 3 years would have a big impact, you're still young. I muct emphasise when I suggested having mirena removed in summer, that It was with view to using eg condoms. But I wouldn't recommend waiting till dec because your body almost certainly will need time to readjust. i kn ow Aloha was really lucky, my bf was too, having been on pill for decause got pg immediately at age of 39/40, but the reality is very different for most women

whispers, btw, how've you found mirena? Am considering for myself

Fingerscrossed2007 · 07/01/2007 12:25

On Folic acid.

Optimum is to have taken for at least 3 months before concieving so start in Aug/september - before you have mirena removed. Its so cheap you could even start earlier than that. Have you read some of the other lisings on B vitamins and cycles. I now take a vitamin B complex which includes the 400mg of Folic acid as a belt and braces approach.

sprinkles of baby dust xx

mosschops30 · 08/01/2007 18:11

ernest, I have found it fabulous despite what people on here say about it. Would definately have another one after 3rd baby (hers hoping ), no periods, no pain, no weight gain (loss actually about a stone) libido low but same as ever
good luck x
