Miscarriage at 4.5 weeks/chemical pregnancy but with late AF, experiences?

I got my BFP about 10 days ago when AF was a couple of days late. However when I went to the doctor at what should have been 5 weeks exactly a blood test confirmed my HCG was already less than 50 and a couple of days later I started to bleed. I imagine that the embryo must have stopped developing at 4.5 weeks max, so I guess it's a sort of borderline chemical pregnancy/ very early miscarriage. First time I have ever conceived.

Have now been bleeding for about 2.5 days - red blood but it's not that heavy, no clots or tissue and I have no pain or cramps whatsoever. This morning I felt really nauseous when I woke up and have diarrhoea and a thumping headache. If I hadn't known the pregnancy was not viable I would have thought it was morning sickness, but I thought HCG caused that and I must have hardly any left in my system.

Can anyone share experience of how long it took the body to reset itself after a similar early loss? I am not sure if I should be expecting some heavy bleeding soon. I am walking around with giant maxi pads on feeling uncomfortable and a bit stupid.

Hi OP - just a quick reply to say when I had my chemical pregnancy the bleeding was exactly like my normal period - no more painful or heavier. I wouldn't have known it was any different if it weren't for having tested just after AF was due.
Can't advise on the other symptoms though.
Maybe this will give you a bump to someone who knows more!
Sorry to hear about your situation - it's horrible. I hope it's not insensitive to share that I was actually amazed to conceive again the very next month so keep the faith !

Mine was pretty heavy and painful tbh, but then that's what my periods are usually like anyway. I am not sure if it was more so as I usually dose up immediately. I didn't as wasn't sure so felt the whole excruciating thing. Sad Was no longer than a normal period and cycles went back to normal immediately. Sadly still trying, 9 months later.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and fingers crossed for you honeysuckle.

Bleeding has almost stopped today, still feel sick. This is miserable.

trying - with my miscarriages, I have only started to feel sick (like morning sickness) when the pregnancies have started to fail, remained until the miscarriage ended completely and bleeding stopped. Sadly for me the start of apparent morning sickness for me is a bad sign in pregnancy.

All my early losses have been like a normal period or even lighter.

Just as an aside, are you sure that your levels are going down, try taking another test to check that it has turned negative now, before trying again. This is a horrible part of miscarriage, having to test afterwards.

So sorry for your loss.

Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your experience. I don't have any tests but was wondering about that-HCG was very low last Weds but hadn't gone down very much by Friday. I suppose I will have to buy a test and go back to doc if still positive tomorrow.

Do keep testing incase of stuck tissue (sorry) or ectopic. I am very sorry for your loss. X
