Nearly 35, Endometriosis and day 21 test abnormal...very worried

Hello,
I've just joined Mumsnet and looking for support/advice.
I'm just about to turn 35, been trying for two years with no success for 1st baby. I've had 3 laparoscopies for endometriosis and my day 21 blood test has just come back abnormal.
I'm feeling really emotional and panicking - worried that I'm in a hopeless situation and I've left things to late.
Is there anyone out there who has been in a similar situation and has had success? Or anyone going through anything similar?

So sorry to hear that. Flowers

The day 21 test is for progesterone, yes? Don't panic. They can do amazing things with fertility treatments these days.

I have endo too, 2 laps so far. Has it grown on your ovaries or tubes? Mine is/was round my lower uterus so i've been told it shouldn't have much of an impact. A friend has only one ovary due to endo but two children! Don't give up!

Thank you Smile

Yes, that's right, it was the progesterone test. Clear blue said I ovulated last month but this month I never got a peak reading and my day 21 test came back abnormal. So, I am guessing I didn't ovulate this month.

Sorry to hear you have endo too. My last lap (4 years ago) it was just on bladder but previous lap - one of my ovaries and pelvic area was covered in adhesions.

That's great to hear they said it wouldn't have much impact for you and about your friend. It's great to hear positive stories.

I think I have been reading way to many negative stories about endo and fertility over 35 and started to panic.

Daisy so sorry to hear that you've been having difficulties. Do you have a regular 28 day cycle? The progesterone test should be done 7 days before AF is due in order to get an accurate reading. My cycles are 26 days so my test was done on cd19.
I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience of Endo but feel free to come and join us over on the Berry thread. We are a bunch of over 30s who have been TTC #1 long term. We have a huge range of experience between us so I'm sure there'll be someone who can advise you better than I can.

I was going to ask you daisy whether you are under the care of a gynae consultant at a subfertility given your previous gynae history. If you are not then I would request them most firmly to refer you on.

Four laps (and the last one being done 4 years ago) is a lot of surgery. Were these previous laps purely diagnostic ones or did the surgeon actually remove the endo that was found?.

Any test result done over 6 months ago should now be discounted.

Given the above, why is it that they have only now done a day 21 test?.
You need up to date test results for both of you (the day 21 itself is not sufficient) and it may well be that you will need yet more laparoscopic surgery.

Hi, thank you.

No - my cycle is around 33/34 days so maybe they tested too early?
Thank you for the link to the Berry thread [smiles]

The progesterone test is being done by the GP as part of the referral to a fertility clinic - hopefully I will see someone soon. NHS stipulates that I have to have been trying for 2 years before referral, despite my medical history, which is why I haven't been until now Sad

I've had 3 laps since age of 20 - as I was in so much pain.

2 = they removed mild-mod endo and 1 = no endo found just lots of scar tissue on organs. Yes, you are right, it could mean that I have to have another lap, as the last one was so long ago, more endo might have formed.

Fingers crossed the day 21 test is wrong too and I am ovulating.

Yes Daisy I would definitely say they tested too early. Assuming that your luteal phase is 14 days as per average then you would only have just ovulated on cd21 which means the progesterone probably isn't registering on the test. I would ask to be retested around cd26. Or 7 days after OV if you know yourself when you're ovulating. Good luck!

daisytallulah · 01/03/2015 19:29

Oh - hopefully that's why it came back abnormal then! Tested to early.
I'll speak to the dr about it next week. If it's supposed to be 7 days before af, then it was to early as well, as I'm 6 days post test and no sign of period yet
