Oh God, is this the start of the peri menopause

DH and I started to TTC DC2 in January. I'm 35. I really want this second baby and I'm pretty worried we've left it too late.
My periods are usually pretty regular, usually around 28 days. If there's any variation it tends to be towards shorter rather than longer cycles.
This month my period is 3 days late which is completely unheard of for me. I've POAS twice, once on the day my period was due and once yesterday, both negative. My boobs are sore, I've got cramps and my temper is very short but I have been like this for about a week.
Someone please come and tell me its all ok?

The same thing happened to me when starting TTC DC3. I'm 38 and have been trying for about 8 months now. I had two long cycles last summer, 34 days! I've also had really lumpy boobs some months, which is not normal for me! Last month was 31 days, but I'd been having 28 day cycles normally. I have wondered if I am perimenopausal, as I've had mid-cycle spotting too, which can be another symptom. But it's not like you're going to wake up one day and be perimenopausal - gradual changes are taking place in our bodies all the time. It doesn't mean that you are not going to get pg. At 35 I'd say your chances are still pretty good! Better than mine anyway...

One thing I did also consider was chemical pregnancies - I didn't test on my long cycles. Just because you got a bfn doesn't mean that you didn;t have a chemical pg as the levels would perhaps not have been high enough. So that's another thing to bear in mind. Good luck!

Relax :) it doesn't send like the peri-menopause, it's more likely to be stress! You sound like you're stressing (I totally understand) but stress can delay ovulation and in turn af. It's perfectly normal for your cycle to jiggle around by a few days each month. If I ovulate on day 13/14 af arrives day 26/27 but if I ovulate day 15/16 af arrives days 28/29, see you're normal :)

Thanks very much, I'm so sad at the thought of DS being an only child that its clouding everything. I had a pretty hard pregnancy and birth and suffered from PND so its only been in the last wee while I've felt able to try again and I'm pretty anxious about the whole thing.

Sending you a big hug Justone I totally understand. I'm ttc 1st baby after a mc last year and I'm 40 so I really do understand your concerns about your age and peri-menopause. If you reach 6 months and no joy go to your GP as they can run some really straightforward blood tests to check if you're ovulating, thyroid level is okay plus a few others. Tbh if you can't wait go and see your GP and just tell them you've been trying for 6+months already.

Period started at work today so while its a wee bit sad that there isn't any chance of a wee baby this month at least all the bits are still working and I can have an other bash next month. I went through the exact same thing, also aged 35 (but TTC 1). Had one late cycle, then one very short cycle (neither of which had ever happened before - I've always been as regular as clockwork). Decided it was peri-menopause, because my mother and grandmother both had early menopause, and then conceived three months later. I know exactly how you feel.

hello, I am 36, taking forever to conceive number 2. No 1 is 2 and conceived first cycle.Some blood tests for me revealed I have lower FSH levels which is good and the doctor said it indicated I was further away from the menopause than they would expect at this stage and looked like I had good fertility once I stopped bfing which was suppressing certain hormones

admittedly this is no comfort at all whilst my bfp remains elusive and I am entirely irrational

so your GP may well be able to reassure you everything is ok with a couple of blood tests? good luck.
