Clomid experiences

Hi All, I am new to all this, never posted before so feeling a little nervous!! Not quite sure I have got all the abbreviations and the language quite right!

My partner and I have been TTC for 18 months without success. We have been referred to fertility clinic and have had various tests, HSG, ultrasound, bloods etc all test results suggest that I am not ovulating. I have been prescribed Clomid, 50mg a day from day 2 of my cycle.

Wondered if anyone has any experiences of Clomid? Successes, how long it took to get a BFP and also side effects? I seem to have been getting headaches since taking the tablets, even after finishing the 5 day course. I also feel enormous! My tummy is so swollen! Anyone else found this? Confused

Xxx

Took a test this morning and it was negative. I'm on day 28 now so I guess I just have to wait for AF x

woodwaj · 22/11/2013 09:01

Got my fx for you for either bfp or AF I know waiting for it on the first month is hard!!

MahnaMahna · 22/11/2013 12:49

woodwaj · 22/11/2013 13:29

Sorry am a bit vague on the details but DS2 is a clomid baby. He is nearly ten now hence why I am slightly hazy. I remember the side effects being like very nasty pmt and I did feel awful for about ten days from starting to take it. It was really rather unpleasant but I was lucky and got a bfp in the first month on a low dose (I assume 50mg).

My problem was that my cycle was very irregular rather than not ovulating we just didn't know when so clomid enabled us to know when and dtd at the right time. We were very lucky and delighted that it worked first time.

Best of luck to you all.

Thanks Nickname, always nice to hear a success story!

Good luck at the docs tomorrow Mahna

j200 · 24/11/2013 20:15

Good luck Mahna!

Finished my first 5 days yesterday and have my scan to check progress on Friday, praying it is working or I will be moving onto injectables!! x

roozocheeks · 24/11/2013 21:36

Hi, just wanted to add my story. I fell pg on first cycle of clomid 50mg, no periods, not ovulating before. I ovulated about day 19/20 so no 28 day cycle for me.
I think the reason most people are started on lowest dose is that there is a risk of it thinning the uterus lining the higher the dose, therefore they go for lowest one that works for you.
Good luck to all!

MahnaMahna · 25/11/2013 16:25

AD arrived this morning. I'm actually okay with it. It's the first period for me in over 2 years so I guess the clomid worked. It just wasn't my month :)

woodwaj · 25/11/2013 17:36

The first month is always reassuring rather than depressing its good to know its working! Not long now until you can get back to dtd!!

sgilly74 · 27/11/2013 16:13

Hi, I've just come back from the consultant, thought I was having my HSG today as that is what my GP said but was just swab to check for infections. He has given me a prescription for Clomid and I'm to call on the first day of the period to book in for the HSG. Sadly the consultant informed me that because of my age (39) and the waiting list I won't get IVF on the NHS now. Wish the GP had told me this when I first visited her nearly a year and a half ago. I'm to stay on clomid for 6 mths if my scan is clear, if the scan is bad then thats the end of the road for me.
Fingers crossed!!! Not liking the sound of the side effects though.

woodwaj · 27/11/2013 16:34

Hi sgilly. That is a shitter I really hope clomid works for you. Why don't you try it with the smep? I had no side effects on my first month my tip is to take it at night and sleep through any sode effects. Good luck x

sgilly74 · 27/11/2013 16:50

Sorry woodwaj but was is SMEP, not getting the acronyms yet and its not on the list x

sgilly74 · 27/11/2013 17:08

Don't worry, googled it so now know! We're pretty much doing SMEP anyway so fingers crossed all will come together...so to speak :-)

woodwaj · 27/11/2013 21:01

What dose of clomid have they given you?
