I know this is a silly question but I wanted to check is it possible to conceive if you only did the deed once 8 days before you ovulated and no other time during the month?

Also another silly question I know but I would be very grateful for any advice - do you ovulate roughly the same time every month - for instance I have a 29-30 day cycle so does that mean I ovulate regularly on day 16 every month or could I ovulate on different days on different months

1 - if you know you ovulated 8 days after DTD, no. Sperm lives for 2-3 days inside the woman's body.

2 - generally people think ovulation happens on roughly the same day each month, give or take a day here or there. That's if you have a regular cycle, and ovulate from both ovaries.

I disagree slightly....

• unlikely but not impossible. Typically your fertile window is estimated to be three days before ov, ovulation day and the day after (5days in total). Unlikely to live longer than 4/5 days but in optimal conditions can be 6/7.

• no. Most people's lutal phase (time between ov and af) is consistent. But many things can affect ov timing (stress, ibuprofen, flying). Also some people have slightly different timings from each ovary.

As an example my ov date has fluctuated between CD 17 and 24! That's over a week different! This isn't the average though.

Im going to start the opks the next cycle - that's assuming it is a BFN which its highly likely to be given my past history

it would be good to know when I did ovulate so Im hoping that the OPK will tell me a bit more
